Brooke’s Escape — The Secret Bethany Hid for Years

BROOKE’S ESCAPE — THE SECRET BETHANY HID FOR YEARS

BROOKE“You’re my mother, Bethany! How could you hit me just because I told you the truth?”

Bethany stared at Brooke without showing the slightest sign of regret.

BETHANY“If you think you can stand against me in my own house, you’ll learn what happens to people who betray me.”

Brooke held her cheek, tears filling her eyes. She had defended her mother for years, but tonight she realized that the person she had always trusted might be the person she needed to escape.

Across the room, Sharra watched in horror.

And none of them knew that one decision Brooke would make before sunrise would expose a secret Bethany had buried for years.

SCENE 1 — THE FIGHT THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

INT. BETHANY’S HOUSE — LIVING ROOM — NIGHT

Sharra stood near the sofa, facing Bethany. Their argument had been going on for several minutes, and neither woman seemed willing to back down.

BETHANY“You always interfere in my business! Who gave you the right to question my decisions?”

SHARRA“I'm not interfering. I'm telling you that you're wrong. You can't treat everyone like they're beneath you.”

Bethany laughed bitterly.

BETHANY“You know nothing about what I've sacrificed for this family.”

SHARRA“Sacrifice doesn't give you the right to hurt people.”

Brooke appeared at the entrance, listening to every word. She had hoped to spend a quiet evening in her room, but the shouting had drawn her downstairs.

BROOKE“Mom, please stop. This isn't helping anyone.”

BETHANY“Stay out of this, Brooke.”

BROOKE“But Sharra is right. You're treating her unfairly, and you refuse to admit it.”

The room went silent. Bethany slowly approached Brooke.

BETHANY“What did you just say to me?”

BROOKE“I said you're doing the wrong thing. I'm your daughter, Mom. I'm not your enemy.”

Bethany suddenly slapped her. Brooke stumbled backward, covering her cheek. Sharra rushed toward them, horrified.

SHARRA“Bethany! Have you completely lost control?”

BETHANY“She needs to learn respect!”

BROOKE“Respect isn't something you can force someone to give you.”

Bethany pointed toward the stairs.

BETHANY“Get out of my sight!”

Brooke stared at her mother for a moment, waiting for an apology that never came. Then she turned and walked upstairs. For the first time, she wasn't wondering how to fix her relationship with Bethany. She was wondering how to leave it behind.

SCENE 2 — THE PHONE CALL

INT. BROOKE’S BEDROOM — LATER THAT NIGHT

Brooke locked her bedroom door and sat beside her bed. Her cheek still hurt, but the pain in her heart was worse.

She picked up her phone and opened Isaiah's messages. Isaiah had always been the one person who listened without judging her. He lived in a peaceful village, far from the tension and arguments that had become part of her daily life.

BROOKE“Isaiah, I need your help. I can't stay here anymore.”

Her phone rang almost immediately.

ISAIAH“Brooke? What's happened? You sound like you've been crying.”

BROOKE“I defended Sharra when Mom was treating her badly. Bethany got angry and slapped me.”

Isaiah fell silent for a moment.

ISAIAH“She actually hit you?”

BROOKE“Yes. And the worst part is that she doesn't even think she did anything wrong.”

Brooke wiped away her tears.

BROOKE“I'm tired, Isaiah. I keep hoping things will change, but they never do. I don't feel safe or happy in that house anymore.”

ISAIAH“You don't deserve to live like that. Tell me what you need, and we'll work out a safe plan.”

BROOKE“I want to come to the village. I need some distance from everyone.”

ISAIAH“All right. If you decide to come, I'll meet you at the airport and take you home. Just make sure your travel arrangements are safe, and let me know when you're on your way.”

Brooke closed her eyes, breathing slowly.

BROOKE“Thank you. I knew you would understand.”

ISAIAH“You don't have to thank me for caring about you.”

Neither noticed the faint shadow passing beneath the bedroom door. Someone downstairs had overheard enough of their conversation to realize that Brooke was planning to leave.

SCENE 3 — BETHANY DISCOVERS THE PLAN

INT. BETHANY’S HOUSE — KITCHEN — NIGHT

Sharra stood near the kitchen counter, looking worried. Bethany entered the room, still furious about Brooke's words.

BETHANY“Your little conversation with Brooke has made things worse.”

SHARRA“I didn't tell her to argue with you. She spoke because she couldn't stand watching you hurt someone.”

Bethany opened a drawer and searched for something.

BETHANY“Where is the envelope?”

Sharra looked up.

SHARRA“What envelope?”

Bethany stopped searching.

BETHANY“Don't play games with me. The envelope that was on my desk.”

Sharra said nothing.

Bethany studied her face suspiciously.

BETHANY“You know something, don't you?”

SHARRA“Maybe you should worry less about what other people know and more about what you've done.”

Bethany slammed the drawer shut.

BETHANY“Be careful, Sharra.”

Sharra walked away without answering. Upstairs, Brooke quietly packed a small bag, taking her essential belongings and travel documents. She didn't want another confrontation. She wanted to leave before Bethany could turn her decision into another argument.

Before dawn, Brooke left the house and headed to the airport. She left a short note explaining that she needed time away and would contact them when she was ready.

But as her car disappeared down the road, Bethany stood at an upstairs window. She watched until it was gone.

Then she reached for her phone.

BETHANY“She's leaving. Find out where she's going.”

She ended the call and looked toward the empty staircase. For the first time that night, her anger was replaced by fear.

SCENE 4 — THE JOURNEY TO THE VILLAGE

INT. AIRPLANE — MORNING

Brooke sat beside the window, watching the clouds drift beneath the aircraft. She had imagined leaving home many times, but she had never thought the day would actually come.

Her phone vibrated. Isaiah had sent a message.

ISAIAH“I'm on my way to the airport. Message me when you land. I'll be waiting for you.”

BROOKE“I'm almost there. I just want everything to be peaceful for once.”

She put her phone away and leaned back. For a few minutes, she allowed herself to imagine a different life. A life without shouting, threats, or the constant fear of upsetting Bethany.

But then she remembered the expression on her mother's face after the slap. It hadn't been an expression of guilt. It had been an expression of hatred.

Brooke turned back toward the window. She couldn't understand how someone who had raised her could suddenly treat her like an enemy. And she couldn't shake the feeling that Bethany's anger was hiding something deeper.

SCENE 5 — ISAIAH IS WAITING

EXT. AIRPORT ARRIVALS — DAY

The plane landed, and Brooke stepped into the terminal with her bag. She called Isaiah.

BROOKE“I've arrived. Where are you?”

ISAIAH“Near the main entrance. Look for the man wearing a dark jacket.”

Brooke walked through the arrivals area, searching the crowd. Then she saw him. Isaiah stood near the entrance, looking from one side to the other. When he spotted Brooke, he immediately walked toward her.

ISAIAH“Brooke!”

She hurried toward him, and for a moment, neither knew what to say. Isaiah noticed the faint mark on her cheek. His smile disappeared.

ISAIAH“Did Bethany do that?”

Brooke looked down.

BROOKE“I don't want to talk about her right now.”

Isaiah nodded and took her bag.

ISAIAH“Then we won't. Let's get you home.”

Brooke followed him toward the car. For the first time in days, she felt she could breathe without being afraid of what might happen next.

But as Isaiah unlocked the car, he noticed a black vehicle parked across the road. Its driver was watching them.

Isaiah looked again. The vehicle suddenly pulled away.

BROOKE“What is it?”

ISAIAH“Nothing. I thought I recognized someone.”

He opened the passenger door for her, but his expression remained troubled. He had a feeling that Brooke's arrival was going to bring more trouble than either of them expected.

SCENE 6 — A HOME THAT FEELS SAFE

INT. ISAIAH’S HOUSE — AFTERNOON

Isaiah carried Brooke's bag into the house and showed her the guest bedroom. The village was quiet, with green fields stretching beyond the windows. The peaceful surroundings were everything Brooke had hoped for.

ISAIAH“You can stay here as long as you need. No one will force you to go back before you're ready.”

Brooke looked around the room.

BROOKE“I don't know how to thank you.”

ISAIAH“You don't have to. Just take care of yourself.”

He left her to rest. Later, they sat together in the living room. Isaiah brought her a cup of tea while Brooke stared out at the garden.

BROOKE“Do you think I did the wrong thing by leaving?”

ISAIAH“No. Wanting peace doesn't make you a bad daughter.”

BROOKE“Sometimes I wonder whether Bethany ever loved me the way a mother should.”

Isaiah leaned forward.

ISAIAH“I can't answer that for you. But whatever happened between you, you deserve to be treated with kindness.”

Brooke nodded, fighting back tears. Suddenly, Isaiah's phone rang. He answered, listened for several seconds, and then stood up.

ISAIAH“Who is this?”

There was no reply. The call ended.

BROOKE“Who was it?”

ISAIAH“Someone asking whether you had arrived.”

Brooke's face changed.

BROOKE“Did you tell them where I was?”

ISAIAH“No. I didn't even recognize the number.”

Brooke stood and walked toward the window.

BROOKE“How could anyone know I was coming here?”

Isaiah had no answer. Then someone knocked on the front door. Three slow, deliberate knocks.

Isaiah walked toward the entrance while Brooke remained frozen in the living room. He opened the door.

Sharra stood outside, looking exhausted and frightened.

SCENE 7 — THE ENVELOPE

INT. ISAIAH’S HOUSE — LIVING ROOM — EVENING

Brooke rushed toward Sharra.

BROOKE“Sharra! Why are you here? What happened?”

Sharra embraced her tightly.

SHARRA“I had to warn you. Bethany knows you've left, and she's furious.”
