nou ) When Anthony tries to sleep in the master bedroom with Amber… Everything goes wrong

THE NIGHT WE ALMOST CAME BACK
SCENE 1 — THE UNEXPECTED RETURN
EXT. TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS — SUNSET
The ocean glows beneath the fading sunlight. Palm trees sway in the warm breeze, and waves roll gently across the shore. Everything looks peaceful, but for Anthony and Amber, this trip could change everything.
They are divorced. They are supposed to be moving on. Yet the moment Anthony sees Amber stepping out of the airport terminal, he realizes that the feelings he tried to bury have never truly disappeared.
ANTHONY (V.O.)
I thought divorce would make things easier. I thought walking away would help me forget her. But the moment I saw her again, I understood something. You can end a marriage on paper, but you cannot always end what your heart remembers.
SCENE 2 — TWO STRANGERS
EXT. AIRPORT PARKING AREA — EVENING
Amber walks toward the waiting car, carrying a small suitcase. Anthony stands beside the driver’s door, trying to hide his nervousness. She looks beautiful, but something about her has changed. She no longer searches his face for answers.
ANTHONY
Let me get that for you.
AMBER
I can manage my own suitcase, Anthony.
He pauses. The words are simple, but they remind him of everything that has changed.
ANTHONY
Right. Sorry.
Amber puts her suitcase in the trunk herself. They drive toward the villa, surrounded by beautiful beaches and endless blue water. Anthony occasionally glances at her, but she keeps looking outside the window.
He remembers when she used to reach for his hand during long drives. Now she sits beside him like someone who has already learned how to live without him.
SCENE 3 — THE VILLA
EXT. LUXURY BEACHFRONT VILLA — NIGHT
The villa stands beside the turquoise ocean, surrounded by tropical gardens and glowing outdoor lights. Anthony chose the place because he remembered how much Amber loved the water. Perhaps, deep down, he hoped the location would bring back the love they once shared.
AMBER
This place is beautiful.
ANTHONY
I remembered you liked places near the water.
For one brief second, something soft appears in Amber’s expression.
AMBER
That was a long time ago.
She walks inside, leaving Anthony beside the car. He stares at the ocean and remembers the woman who once promised to grow old with him.
The memories feel close enough to touch, but the woman he wants back is walking farther away.
SCENE 4 — THE MASTER BEDROOM
INT. VILLA — LIVING ROOM — NIGHT
The villa is elegant and spacious. Glass doors open onto a private terrace, and moonlight spills across the floor. Amber looks around before turning toward the staircase.
AMBER
Which room am I taking?
ANTHONY
There are two bedrooms upstairs.
AMBER
Good.
She begins to climb the stairs, but Anthony stops her.
ANTHONY
Amber, wait. I thought we could use the master bedroom.
AMBER
We?
ANTHONY
It’s the biggest room. The balcony overlooks the ocean.
AMBER
Anthony, we’re divorced. Why are you talking as if we’re still a couple?
He looks away, struggling to find an answer.
ANTHONY
I just thought it might be nice to spend some time together.
AMBER
Then spend time with me. Talk to me. Have dinner with me. But don’t confuse being on vacation with having the right to step back into my life.
Amber walks upstairs. Anthony remains alone in the living room, realizing that a beautiful villa cannot erase the consequences of his decision.
SCENE 5 — MEMORIES AT DINNER
INT. VILLA — DINING AREA — LATER THAT NIGHT
A candle flickers between two plates of untouched food. Amber sits across from Anthony, looking at her phone. He remembers when dinners used to be their favorite part of the day. They once talked for hours, sharing dreams and laughing about the smallest things.
ANTHONY
Do you remember our anniversary dinner?
AMBER
Which one?
ANTHONY
The one where I knocked over the entire glass of water.
AMBER
You soaked the tablecloth and blamed the waiter.
Amber laughs softly. For a moment, their old connection returns. Anthony leans forward, hoping the moment will last.
ANTHONY
I missed that.
AMBER
What?
ANTHONY
Laughing with you.
Her smile fades. She places her phone on the table and looks directly at him.
AMBER
You had plenty of opportunities to do that when we were married.
ANTHONY
I know.
AMBER
Do you remember how many nights I cried alone while you were in the next room? How many times I asked you to talk to me? How often I told you that I felt like I was losing you?
ANTHONY
I remember.
AMBER
Then you remember why we ended up here.
She walks away. Anthony remains at the table, finally understanding that missing Amber is not the same as understanding what he did to her.
SCENE 6 — THE PHOTOGRAPH
EXT. VILLA TERRACE — LATE NIGHT
Anthony stands beneath a sky scattered with stars. He takes out his phone and opens an old photograph from their wedding day. Amber is laughing, her arms wrapped around his neck.
He remembers promising her that no matter what happened, he would never make her feel alone.
ANTHONY (V.O.)
I thought I was unhappy because our marriage had changed. I blamed the arguments and the distance. I told myself leaving was the only way to feel free again. But freedom feels different when the person you want beside you is the person you chose to leave.
A floorboard creaks behind him. Amber stands in the doorway, wearing a soft robe.
AMBER
You should get some sleep.
ANTHONY
I will.
She notices the photograph on his phone.
AMBER
Why are you looking at that?
ANTHONY
I found it while going through my pictures.
AMBER
You could delete it.
ANTHONY
Do you want me to?
AMBER
What I want doesn’t change anything anymore.
She disappears inside. Anthony looks at the photograph again, seeing not only their happiness but also the promise he failed to keep.
SCENE 7 — ONE NIGHT TOGETHER
INT. VILLA — MASTER BEDROOM — AFTER MIDNIGHT
The bedroom is dimly lit by moonlight. Amber lies awake on one side of the bed, unable to escape the memories returning to her. A quiet knock interrupts her thoughts.
AMBER
Who is it?
ANTHONY (O.S.)
It’s me. Can we talk?
AMBER
It’s late, Anthony.
ANTHONY
I know. I just can’t sleep.
AMBER
That doesn’t mean you get to come in here.
Anthony starts to close the door.
AMBER
Anthony?
ANTHONY
Yes?
AMBER
What are you actually asking me?
He takes a deep breath.
ANTHONY
I want to be close to you again. I know we’re divorced, and I know I don’t have the right to ask you for anything. But being here makes me remember everything I thought I could live without.
ANTHONY
I miss waking up beside you. I miss hearing about your day. I miss the way you used to look at me when you thought I wasn’t paying attention.
AMBER
You don’t get to miss me only when I’m no longer yours.
The words strike him deeply. He lowers his head.
ANTHONY
I know. I’m sorry.
AMBER
I’m tired of hearing apologies that come after the damage is done.
Silence fills the room. Anthony remains outside the doorway.
ANTHONY
Would it be wrong if I stayed here tonight? Just to talk. Nothing else.
Amber looks at the empty side of the bed. Memories pull at her, but so do the painful nights she spent feeling alone beside him.
AMBER
If you stay, it doesn’t mean we’re getting back together. And it doesn’t mean I’ve forgiven you.
ANTHONY
I understand.
AMBER
You can sit in the chair.
Anthony enters and sits beside the balcony, leaving the distance between them untouched. For several minutes, they listen to the waves.
SCENE 8 — THE QUESTION SHE NEVER FORGOT
INT. MASTER BEDROOM — CONTINUOUS
AMBER
Do you remember the first night we spent together?
ANTHONY
You stole all the blankets.
AMBER
You said you weren’t cold.
ANTHONY
I was trying to be a gentleman.
AMBER
You were trying to impress me.
They laugh softly. For a fragile moment, they are simply Anthony and Amber, remembering who they used to be.
AMBER
When did you stop loving me?
Anthony looks at her for a long time.
ANTHONY
I don’t think I did.
ANTHONY
I think I stopped knowing how to love you properly. I became so focused on everything I thought was missing from my life that I stopped seeing what was happening to yours.
ANTHONY
I thought leaving would solve the things I couldn’t fix. But I never asked myself whether I was giving up because our marriage was beyond saving or because saving it required me to change.
AMBER
And what have you learned?
ANTHONY
That loving someone isn’t enough if you keep making them feel unloved.
Amber wipes a tear from her cheek. She lies back against the pillows, still uncertain what to believe.
AMBER
I need to sleep.
ANTHONY
Of course.
He moves toward the door.
AMBER
Anthony?
ANTHONY
Yes?
AMBER
You can stay in the chair until morning.
He returns to the chair. Amber closes her eyes. For the first time since their divorce, they share a room without pretending their past never happened.
SCENE 9 — SUNRISE AND A SMALL HOPE
EXT. TURKS AND CAICOS BEACH — EARLY MORNING
The sun rises slowly over the ocean. Amber walks barefoot along the shoreline while Anthony follows a few steps behind.
AMBER
I used to imagine what it would be like to see you again after everything was over. I thought I wouldn’t care anymore.
ANTHONY
And do you?
AMBER
That’s the problem.
Their eyes meet. For a moment, Anthony thinks she might reach for his hand, but she looks back at the sea.
AMBER
I still remember the man I married. Sometimes I look at you and see him. But I don’t know if that man is still here.
ANTHONY
Then let me show you who I am now.
AMBER
You can’t ask me to believe in a person you’ve only just decided to become.
Anthony accepts her words without arguing.
ANTHONY
I won’t ask you to decide anything today. I just want to spend this trip listening to you, not convincing you. I want to earn your trust, even if it takes longer than this vacation.
AMBER
And what happens when we go home?
ANTHONY
Then I’ll have to prove that what I said here wasn’t just something I felt because the ocean is beautiful and you’re standing beside me.
AMBER
You always did know how to make things sound romantic.
ANTHONY
I’m trying to learn how to make them true.
Amber reaches for his hand. Their fingers touch briefly before she lets go. It is a small gesture, but for Anthony, it feels like the first light after a very long night.
SCENE 10 — THE SECRET
INT. VILLA — MASTER BEDROOM — NIGHT
Rain falls softly against the balcony doors. Amber stands near the dresser, packing a few things into her overnight bag. Anthony enters after knocking and notices the bag.
ANTHONY
Are you going somewhere?
AMBER
I’m changing rooms.
ANTHONY
