jnd ) Shayla Blames D’Nisha, But Anthony’s Dark Secret Changes Everything

SHAYLA VS. D’NISHA:
THE BETRAYAL SHE REFUSES TO ADMIT
SCENE 1 — THE WOMAN WHO LOST EVERYTHING
INT. ANTHONY’S HOUSE — EVENING
The room is silent, but the tension is impossible to ignore.
Shayla stands in front of D’Nisha, her eyes filled with anger and jealousy. Her hands tremble as she looks at the woman who now shares the life she once had with Anthony.
D’Nisha remains calm, refusing to let Shayla’s accusations intimidate her.
SHAYLAYou really think you can stand there and act like you did nothing wrong?
You came into my life, and suddenly everything I had was gone.
My husband. My home. My future.
You took it all from me, D’Nisha.
I didn’t take anything from you, Shayla.
You need to stop blaming me for decisions that Anthony made himself.
Decisions? You call this a decision?
Anthony was my husband before he was yours. I was the woman who stood beside him. I was the one who built a life with him.
And now you’re the one standing beside him while I’m left with nothing.
D’Nisha takes a slow breath, studying Shayla’s face. Shayla speaks as though the past has been rewritten until she is the only innocent person left.
D’NISHAYou keep talking about what you lost.
But have you ever stopped to think about what you did to him?
Shayla’s expression changes. For the first time, her anger gives way to a flash of fear.
SHAYLAWhat exactly is that supposed to mean?
You know what it means.
You know what happened between you and Anthony long before I became his wife.
Don’t pretend you know everything about my marriage. You weren’t there.
Maybe I wasn’t. But I know enough to understand that you can’t destroy a relationship, walk away from it, and then blame another woman when your ex-husband finally moves on.
The words hit Shayla harder than she expects. She clenches her jaw.
SHAYLAYou have no idea what I’ve been through.
Then tell me the truth.
Tell me why you really want Anthony back.
Is it because you still love him?
Or is it because the man you chose over him has now betrayed you?
CUT TO BLACK.
SCENE 2 — BEFORE EVERYTHING FELL APART
INT. ANTHONY AND SHAYLA’S FORMER HOME — FLASHBACK — NIGHT
Months earlier. Anthony sits alone at the dining table, staring at a dinner that has gone cold. Two plates are set out, but only one person is home.
He checks his phone again. No message from Shayla. No explanation. No indication of when she will return.
The front door finally opens. Shayla walks in, looking distracted. She drops her purse onto the couch and barely glances at Anthony.
ANTHONYDo you know what time it is?
I didn’t realize I needed permission to come home.
That’s not what I said. I called you three times. You didn’t answer.
I was busy, Anthony.
Busy doing what?
Shayla pauses for a fraction of a second, then gives him a dismissive look.
SHAYLAWhy does everything have to become an interrogation with you?
Anthony leans back, visibly exhausted. He wants honesty, attention, and reassurance that the woman he loves still wants to be there. But Shayla’s heart is somewhere else — with Iman.
ANTHONYI feel like I’m living with a stranger.
You come home late. You hide your phone. Every time I ask you a question, you act like I’m the enemy.
What happened to us?
For a moment, Shayla looks almost guilty. She remembers the beginning of their marriage, but instead of admitting what has changed, she turns away.
SHAYLAMaybe you should ask yourself why I don’t feel happy anymore.
If something is wrong, tell me.
If you don’t love me anymore, tell me that, too.
Just don’t make me spend every night wondering what I did.
SCENE 3 — THE SECRET SHAYLA KEPT
INT. IMAN’S APARTMENT — NIGHT
Shayla sits beside Iman on the couch, smiling as he tells her about his plans for the future. With him, she seems to have all the energy she claims to have lost in her marriage.
IMANYou know what I like about us? We don’t have to pretend.
When we’re together, everything feels easy.
That’s because you understand me in a way Anthony never did.
Then why are you still going home to him?
Shayla looks down at their joined hands.
SHAYLAIt’s complicated.
Is it? You tell me you want to be with me, but you’re still married to another man.
How long are we supposed to keep doing this?
I thought you understood my situation.
I understand that you say you love me. But I need to know what you’re actually going to do about it.
She wants Iman, but she also wants the security and familiar life she has with Anthony. She wants to keep both possibilities open.
SHAYLAI’ll figure it out. Just give me some time.
I hope you know what you’re risking.
SCENE 4 — ANTHONY FINALLY WALKS AWAY
INT. ANTHONY AND SHAYLA’S HOME — NIGHT
Anthony stands near the bedroom door while Shayla packs a small bag. He has spent weeks trying to repair their marriage, but every attempt has been met with another excuse or argument.
ANTHONYAre you leaving again?
I need some space.
You’ve had space. You’ve had time.
You’ve had every opportunity to tell me what’s happening, and you still refuse to be honest with me.
I can’t keep living like this.
Neither can I.
I can’t keep begging my own wife to act like she wants to be here.
If you want a different life, you need to be honest about it.
Maybe I do want a different life.
Anthony closes his eyes briefly. He steps aside and lets her pass. Shayla mistakes his exhaustion for weakness.
SCENE 5 — THE BETRAYAL COMES FULL CIRCLE
INT. SHAYLA’S APARTMENT — LATE NIGHT
Shayla sits alone on the edge of her bed, staring at her phone. She has sent Iman several messages, but none has received a reply.
She calls him. The phone rings until the call ends. She tries again, but this time it goes straight to voicemail.
SHAYLACome on, Iman. Pick up.
Her phone lights up. It is not Iman. A message from an unknown number appears.
Shayla opens the photograph. It appears to show Iman with another woman outside a restaurant. His arm is around her waist, and he wears the same expression he once gave Shayla.
SHAYLANo. No, this can’t be happening.
She calls Iman again. This time, someone answers.
IMANWhat?
What do you mean, what? Where have you been? I’ve been trying to reach you all night.
I’ve been busy.
Busy with her? I saw the picture, Iman. Tell me it’s not what it looks like.
Shayla, don’t start. You have a husband, Shayla. You had a whole marriage when this started.
Don’t act like you were the only person making choices.
His words cut through her anger because they expose the truth she has spent months avoiding.
SHAYLAI was going to leave Anthony.
But you didn’t. And I’m tired of waiting for you to decide what you want.
I never promised you the future you imagined.
The call ends. Shayla calls back, but Iman does not answer. Her thoughts turn to Anthony.
