Mj );Mariah Follows Brooke to Philly and Catches Isaiah in a Lie

The Secret Waiting in Philly
Hook — Someone Was Lying
The moment Mariah discovered that Brooke was leaving for Philadelphia, she knew something wasn’t right. Brooke had been acting strangely, avoiding questions, and keeping her plans a secret. But what frightened Mariah the most was the name she couldn’t get out of her mind: Isaiah.
When Mariah called him, his answer sounded convincing. Too convincing.
He claimed he had no contact with Brooke. But Mariah wasn’t ready to believe him. And when she finally arrived in Philadelphia, the person waiting for Brooke was the very man who had claimed to know nothing about her journey.
The truth was about to come out—but Mariah had no idea how much it would change everything.
Scene 1: The News That Changed Everything
Mariah’s living room — Late afternoon.
The room was quiet except for the sound of Mariah’s phone vibrating on the coffee table. She picked it up and noticed a message from someone who had recently seen Brooke.
Mariah opened the message. Her expression changed immediately.
MARIAH
(Reading the message aloud, confused.)
“Brooke is really leaving for Philly? I thought she was staying here.”
Mariah stared at the screen, reading the words again. She had heard rumors about Brooke making plans to leave, but she never imagined that Brooke would actually go through with it without telling her.
Mariah immediately called Brooke. The phone rang several times before going to voicemail.
MARIAH
“Come on, Brooke. Pick up the phone.”
She tried again. Nothing. Mariah put the phone down and began pacing around the room. Something about the situation bothered her. Brooke wasn’t the kind of person who would suddenly disappear without a good reason.
And then another thought entered her mind. Isaiah.
Mariah remembered the strange conversations, the unanswered questions, and the way Brooke had reacted whenever his name came up. She stopped walking.
MARIAH
“What if Isaiah knows something?”
She grabbed her phone again. This time, she wasn’t going to wait for Brooke to call back. She was going straight to Isaiah.
Scene 2: Isaiah Denies Everything
Mariah’s living room — A few minutes later.
Mariah dialed Isaiah’s number. He answered after the third ring.
ISAIAH
“Hello?”
MARIAH
“Isaiah, I need to ask you something.”
ISAIAH
“Okay. What’s going on?”
MARIAH
“Have you talked to Brooke recently?”
There was a brief silence on the other end. It was only a second, but Mariah noticed it.
ISAIAH
“Brooke? Why are you asking me about her?”
MARIAH
“Because I heard she’s going to Philadelphia, and I thought you might know something about it.”
Isaiah let out a short breath.
ISAIAH
“Mariah, I don’t know anything about Brooke’s plans.”
MARIAH
“So you haven’t talked to her?”
ISAIAH
“No. I have nothing to do with Brooke anymore. I haven’t been in contact with her.”
Mariah remained silent for a moment. She wanted to believe him. But something about his voice made her uncomfortable. He sounded as if he had prepared his answer before she even called.
MARIAH
“Are you sure, Isaiah?”
ISAIAH
“Yes, I’m sure. Why would I lie to you about something like that?”
Mariah didn’t respond immediately.
ISAIAH
“Look, I don’t know why Brooke is going to Philly, and honestly, it has nothing to do with me.”
He ended the conversation shortly afterward. Mariah slowly lowered her phone. For several seconds, she simply stood there.
MARIAH
(Quietly.)
“Then why did you hesitate?”
She replayed the conversation in her mind. Isaiah had denied everything, but he hadn’t sounded surprised to hear that Brooke was leaving. He had sounded worried. And Mariah was beginning to suspect that his worry had nothing to do with her questions. It had something to do with what might happen if she discovered the truth.
Scene 3: Mariah Starts Investigating
Mariah’s bedroom — Early evening.
Mariah sat on the edge of her bed with her laptop open. She searched through her recent conversations with Brooke, looking for anything that might explain the sudden trip.
Then she found something—a message Brooke had sent a few days earlier.
“Sometimes, walking away is the only way to find out who really cares about you.”
At the time, Mariah hadn’t thought much about it. Now, the message seemed different. Mariah scrolled through their conversation, searching for more clues. There were short replies, missed calls, and a few messages Brooke had deleted.
Mariah called Brooke one more time. Voicemail.
MARIAH
“Brooke, I don’t know what’s going on with you, but I’m not going to sit here pretending everything is normal. If you’re leaving because something happened, at least give me a chance to understand.”
She ended the call. Then she opened a travel website and began checking possible routes to Philadelphia. Mariah wasn’t sure what she would do when she got there. She didn’t even know whether Brooke would want to see her.
But she couldn’t ignore the feeling that something important was happening behind her back. She stood up, grabbed her bag, and began gathering her belongings.
Her phone buzzed. For one hopeful moment, she thought it might be Brooke. Instead, it was an unknown number.
The message contained only a few words.
“If you’re going to Philly, make sure you know who you’re looking for.”
Mariah froze. She read the message again. Who had sent it? And why would someone warn her about a trip she hadn’t told anyone about?
She immediately tried calling the number. It was unavailable. Mariah stared at the screen. Now she was certain that the situation was much bigger than she had imagined. Someone knew what she was planning, and someone wanted her to think twice before going.
But that only made her more determined.
Scene 4: The Journey to Philadelphia
Airport terminal — The following morning.
Mariah walked through the crowded airport with her bag hanging from her shoulder. People rushed past her, dragging suitcases and checking departure screens. She barely noticed any of them. Her mind was occupied by one question.
Was Isaiah telling the truth?
She found her departure gate and sat down. A few minutes later, she opened her phone and looked at Brooke’s last photograph. Brooke was smiling in the picture, looking completely unaware of the storm that was about to follow her.
Mariah felt a mixture of sadness and frustration.
MARIAH
(Whispering to herself.)
“Whatever you’re going through, Brooke, why didn’t you trust me enough to tell me?”
She put her phone away as the boarding announcement began. Throughout the journey, Mariah tried to think of reasonable explanations. Maybe Isaiah really hadn’t spoken to Brooke. Maybe Brooke had decided to leave for personal reasons. Maybe the strange message was just a cruel joke.
But every explanation seemed to lead back to the same uncomfortable feeling. Something wasn’t adding up.
When the plane finally landed in Philadelphia, Mariah felt her stomach tighten. She had arrived in a city where she barely knew her surroundings, chasing answers that might hurt more than the uncertainty itself.
She collected her bag and followed the signs toward the arrivals area. Then she took out her phone and called Brooke again. This time, the call rang. Mariah held her breath. For a moment, she thought Brooke might finally answer. But the call went unanswered.
MARIAH
“Fine. If you won’t answer me, I’ll find you myself.”
She stepped into the arrivals hall and began looking around. She had no confirmed address and no guarantee that Brooke was even still in the city.
Then she noticed a familiar figure standing near the exit. A man was holding his phone and looking toward the arriving passengers.
Mariah stopped walking. Her heart began pounding.
She knew that face. Isaiah.
The same Isaiah who had told her he had no contact with Brooke. The same Isaiah who had insisted that Brooke’s plans had nothing to do with him. And now he was standing in Philadelphia, waiting.
Scene 5: The Man Who Wasn’t Supposed to Be There
Philadelphia airport — Arrivals area.
Mariah moved behind a group of travelers, keeping her eyes on Isaiah. He checked his phone, glanced toward the exit, and then looked at the time. He wasn’t wandering around. He wasn’t waiting for a random friend. He appeared to be expecting someone.
Mariah tightened her grip on her bag.
MARIAH
(Whispering.)
“What are you doing here, Isaiah?”
She watched as he walked toward the arrival doors. A moment later, he raised his hand and waved to someone approaching from the opposite side. Mariah couldn’t see the person clearly because several travelers were standing between them.
Isaiah smiled. It was a smile Mariah had never heard in his voice during their phone conversation. It was warm, familiar, and filled with relief.
He stepped forward as if he had been waiting a long time for this moment.
ISAIAH
“Here, let me take that.”
BROOKE
“Thank you. I thought you might not make it.”
ISAIAH
“I told you I’d be here.”
BROOKE
“I know. I just wasn’t sure how things would work out.”
Isaiah glanced around the airport before speaking again.
ISAIAH
“Come on. Let’s get out of here. We have a lot to talk about.”
Mariah stood completely still. The words struck her harder than she expected. I told you I’d be here. So Isaiah had known. He had known Brooke was coming, planned to meet her, and denied having any contact with her.
Mariah felt anger rising inside her. But beneath the anger was something more painful: disappointment. She had traveled all this way hoping to understand what was happening. Instead, she had found the very secret she feared.
