nou ) Larry said IVF was just a joke… Bethany took his words seriously. What happened next changed their lives forever.

The doctor looked at Bethany in silence.
Then he slowly placed the medical file on the desk.
“There’s something you need to know before we begin.”
Bethany’s fingers tightened around the edge of her chair.
“What is it?”
The doctor glanced toward the closed door.
“Your husband didn’t tell you everything.”
Bethany’s heart seemed to stop.
For years, she had believed she was the only one carrying a secret.
But now, sitting inside a cold fertility clinic, she realized there might be another secret waiting for her.
And it could destroy everything.
The house was beautiful.
But the nursery at the end of the hallway had never been used.
A small white crib stood beneath the window.
Beside it was a shelf filled with unopened baby clothes.
Bethany stood in the doorway, staring at the room.
She slowly touched one of the tiny dresses.
Her eyes filled with tears.
“Bethany?”
“I was just cleaning.”
“You don’t have to keep pretending you’re okay.”
“I’m not okay, Larry.”
Silence filled the room.
“I’ve tried everything.”
Her voice cracked.
“Every month I hope.”
“And every month… nothing.”
“Don’t say that.”
“But what else am I supposed to think?”
That night, Bethany sat across from Larry at the kitchen table.
Neither of them touched their food.
The clock on the wall seemed louder than usual.
“Larry… I need to ask you something.”
“What?”
“What if I can never become a mother?”
Larry sighed.
“We don’t know that yet.”
“The doctors have run every test.”
Her eyes became wet.
“You could try IUI.”
“Or IVF.”
“Really?”
“Maybe that could work.”
The next morning, Bethany opened her laptop.
She researched fertility clinics.
For the first time in months, she felt hopeful.
“I found a clinic.”
“Already?”
“They have an appointment next week.”
“I can finally try.”
Larry’s expression changed.
“Bethany… I was joking.”
Her smile disappeared.
“What?”
“I don’t have money for these unnecessary things.”
Bethany stood completely still.
“Unnecessary?”
“We have bills.”
Bethany’s eyes filled with tears.
That evening, Bethany called her cousin, Rachel.
They met at a quiet café.
“I don’t want to beg Larry anymore.”
“Then don’t.”
Rachel reached across the table.
“How much do you need?”
Bethany stared at her.
“No. I can’t take your money.”
“You’re asking for a chance to change your life.”
Bethany looked away.
“I’ll pay you back.”
“Just promise me you’ll be careful.”
Two weeks later, Bethany sat inside the fertility clinic.
Her hands trembled.
“We can begin with IUI.”
“And if that doesn’t work?”
“Then IVF may be considered.”
Bethany took a deep breath.
“I want to try.”
The procedure was completed.
Bethany returned home with strict instructions.
She prayed every night.
But when the result came back, the answer was negative.
Bethany sat alone in the bathroom.
She stared at the test.
Her shoulders began to shake.
“I’m not giving up.”
Months passed.
The IUI had failed.
Bethany returned to the clinic.
“I want to try IVF.”
“It will require more treatment and monitoring.”
“I understand.”
The process began.
Injections. Appointments. Blood tests. Long hours waiting.
Bethany kept everything secret from Larry.
One morning, Bethany received a phone call.
“Bethany, your results are ready.”
Bethany stopped breathing.
“Is it…?”
“You should come to the clinic.”
Bethany’s eyes widened.
Something had changed.
