The phone hit the floor.
Amber’s hand followed.
She collapsed against the wall, struggling to breathe.

“You’re lying to me,” Amber whispered.

“Anthony,” she whispered.

“I finally know why he was with you that night,” Amber said.
Shayla froze on the other end of the call.
“What did you say?” she asked.
Amber struggled to answer.

“The message wasn’t about me.”
Shayla’s voice trembled.
“Then who was it about?”
Amber whispered, “You.”

Later, Amber woke inside a hospital room.
Shayla sat beside her bed.
Anthony was gone.
