Bethany’s Last Attempt to Win Larry Back

The Distance Between Them

The house had become strangely quiet. Larry sat alone in the living room, looking at the papers on the table and thinking about how much his life had changed.

Bethany had noticed the distance between them too. For days, she had been trying to bring back the closeness they once shared. She cooked his favorite meals, reminded him of old memories, and repeatedly tried to start conversations about their past.

But Larry kept his distance.

Larry Finally Tells Her the Truth

That evening, Bethany sat beside him and asked, “How long are you going to keep pushing me away?”

Larry looked at her quietly. “I don’t want to hurt you, Bethany. But I have to be honest. I don’t feel the same way anymore.”

Bethany stared at him. “You used to love me.”

“I did,” Larry answered. “But feelings can change. There was a time when I was deeply attracted to you and thought our future would always look the same. But things changed between us, and my feelings changed too.”

Bethany’s eyes filled with disappointment.

“So there is nothing I can do?” she asked.

Larry shook his head. “I don’t want to give you false hope. I can’t pretend to feel something that isn’t there.”

Bethany Refuses to Give Up

Instead of accepting Larry’s answer, Bethany became more determined.

She started bringing up the happiest moments of their relationship. She showed him old photographs and reminded him of the promises they had once made.

Every time, Larry listened politely, but his answer remained the same.

“The past was real,” he told her. “But we can’t live in it forever.”

Bethany walked away without another word.

That night, she sat alone and realized that none of her usual attempts were working. If Larry had truly closed his heart to her, then she needed to understand why.

The Strange Dinner

The following evening, Bethany prepared dinner and asked Larry to sit with her.

“I don’t want to argue,” she said. “I just want one peaceful evening.”

Larry agreed.

For a while, everything seemed normal. They talked about ordinary things, and then Bethany carefully brought up their past again.

“Do you ever wish we could go back to the way we were?” she asked.

Larry paused before answering.

“Sometimes I miss the memories,” he said. “But that doesn’t mean I want to restart the relationship.”

Bethany lowered her eyes.

“I understand,” she whispered.

But Larry noticed something strange in her expression. It looked less like sadness and more like someone who had just made a decision.

The Message Larry Was Never Supposed to See

The next morning, Larry woke up with an uneasy feeling. He couldn’t explain it, but something about the previous night kept bothering him.

When he came downstairs, Bethany was already awake. She looked unusually calm.

“Good morning,” she said.

Larry studied her face. “Why do you look so happy?”

Bethany gave him a small smile. “Maybe because things are finally going the way I hoped.”

Larry frowned. “What does that mean?”

“You’ll understand soon.”

Her answer made Larry even more suspicious.

Later that day, Larry returned to the living room and noticed Bethany’s phone on the table. A message notification appeared on the screen.

He did not open the phone, but the preview was enough to make him freeze.

“Did everything go according to your plan?”

Larry stared at the words.

Another message appeared.

“Are you sure Larry believes it?”

Suddenly, everything felt different.

Whatever Bethany had been planning was not simply about getting Larry’s attention. Someone else was involved.

The Envelope

Before Larry could think any further, Bethany walked into the room.

She immediately noticed the look on his face.

“What happened?” she asked.

Larry looked directly at her.

“Who have you been talking to?”

Bethany hesitated.

“No one important.”

“Don’t lie to me.”

The room became silent.

Bethany finally reached into her bag and pulled out an envelope.

“You want the truth?” she asked.

Larry took the envelope.

Inside were several documents. He looked at the first page, then the second.

His expression changed.

“Bethany… what is this?”

She didn’t answer.

“Why were you hiding this from me?” Larry asked.

Bethany looked toward the door.

The Person at the Door

Before she could say anything, there was a knock.

Three slow knocks.

Larry looked at Bethany.

She suddenly looked nervous.

Larry walked toward the door and opened it.

A stranger stood outside.

The stranger looked at Larry and then at Bethany.

“Larry,” the person said, “you need to know what Bethany did before you decide whether you can ever trust her again.”

Larry slowly turned around.

Bethany’s face had gone pale.

“Wait,” she whispered.

But Larry raised the envelope in his hand.

“No more secrets,” he said.

The stranger stepped inside.

And just before the door closed, Larry realized that the truth he had been searching for might be far more complicated than he ever imagined.
