D’Nisha Finally Confronts Anthony About Shayla — But His Next Move Could Destroy Their Family

THE COMPARISON THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

Scene 1 — The Comparison That Changed Everything

INT. WAYNE’S HOUSE — LIVING ROOM — EVENING

The room was filled with tension, but D’Nisha’s silence was even louder than her anger. She stood near the couch, staring at her phone. On the screen was a video of Wayne surprising his wife, Yaya, with a beautiful house and expensive gifts.

D’Nisha watched the video twice.

A house. Jewelry. Surprises. A husband who seemed determined to make his wife feel special.

She looked toward Anthony, who was sitting comfortably on the couch, scrolling through his phone as if nothing in the world could possibly be wrong.

D’Nisha slowly placed her phone on the table.

D’NISHAAnthony, can I ask you something?
ANTHONYWithout looking up.
What’s up?
D’NISHAWhen was the last time you actually did something for me without me having to ask you first?

Anthony finally raised his eyes.

ANTHONYWhat do you mean by that?
D’NISHAI mean exactly what I said. When was the last time you surprised me? When was the last time you looked at me and thought, “Let me do something special for the woman who is building a life with me”?

Anthony sighed, already sensing where the conversation was heading.

ANTHONYD’Nisha, if this is about money again, I really don’t have the energy for an argument tonight.

Her expression changed immediately.

D’NISHAAnd that right there is the problem. Every time I tell you how I feel, you turn it into an argument about money.

She picked up her phone and held it toward him.

D’NISHALook at this. Wayne is buying Yaya a house and giving her expensive gifts. He wants her to feel appreciated. He wants her to know that she matters to him.

She paused, waiting for Anthony to respond.

D’NISHAAnd what have you done for me, Anthony?

Anthony stared at the screen before pushing himself up from the couch.

ANTHONYSo now I’m supposed to compete with Wayne? Is that what we’re doing?
D’NISHANo. I’m asking you to act like a man who actually cares about his relationship.

A long silence settled between them.

Neither of them realized that this conversation was about to uncover something much bigger than a car, a ring, or a house.

Scene 2 — The Car and the Ring

INT. LIVING ROOM — CONTINUOUS

Anthony folded his arms, visibly irritated.

ANTHONYI bought you a car. I gave you a ring. What else do you want me to do? You act like I haven’t done anything for you.

D’Nisha let out a short, disappointed laugh.

D’NISHAYou really think that’s enough, don’t you?
ANTHONYI think those are pretty significant things.
D’NISHAThey are significant, Anthony. I’m not denying that. But a relationship isn’t just about buying two things and then expecting your partner to stop asking for anything else.

She stepped closer, keeping her voice controlled.

D’NISHADo you know how much I spent setting up our room? The furniture, the decorations, the little things that make a place feel like home? Do you know how many times I had to figure everything out myself because you were too busy dealing with something else?

Anthony looked away.

D’NISHAI handled the arrangements. I made sure everything was ready. I spent my own money because I wanted us to have a beautiful life together.

Her voice softened, but the disappointment remained.

D’NISHAI wasn’t asking you to make me rich. I wasn’t expecting you to buy me a mansion. I just wanted to feel like we were building something together.
ANTHONYYou could have told me you needed help.
D’NISHAI shouldn’t have to explain every single responsibility to you. You’re not a guest in this relationship, Anthony. You’re my partner.

Anthony rubbed his forehead.

ANTHONYI have responsibilities too. You know that.
D’NISHAThen show me. Don’t just tell me.

She pointed toward the room around them.

D’NISHAI don’t want to spend the rest of my life reminding you that I exist. I don’t want to beg for effort from the man who says he wants a future with me.

For the first time that evening, Anthony had no immediate response.

He knew D’Nisha was upset, but he had convinced himself that the car and the ring proved everything she needed to know about his intentions.

Now he was beginning to understand that she saw those gifts very differently.

To him, they were evidence of commitment.

To her, they were only the beginning.

Scene 3 — Wayne and Yaya Set the Standard

INT. LIVING ROOM — A FEW MINUTES LATER

D’Nisha sat down, her eyes returning to the video.

D’NISHADo you know what hurts the most? It’s not even what Wayne bought for Yaya.
ANTHONYThen what is it?
D’NISHAIt’s the fact that he thought about her happiness before she had to complain about it.

She put her phone aside.

D’NISHAHe planned something for his wife. He wanted to give her a home. He wanted to make a memory with her. And when I look at our relationship, I keep wondering when you’re going to start thinking that way about me.
ANTHONYYou don’t know what goes on in Wayne’s relationship behind closed doors. You see a video, and suddenly you think everything over here is wrong.
D’NISHAI’m not saying Wayne and Yaya have a perfect relationship. I’m talking about what I can see. He’s making an effort, and I’m telling you that I need more effort from you.

Anthony shook his head.

ANTHONYYou can’t judge my love for you by the price of a gift.
D’NISHAThen stop making me feel like I have to fight for the smallest things.

Her words landed harder than she intended.

D’NISHAI want security. I want a man who plans for our future. I want to know that if something happens tomorrow, we won’t be standing here trying to figure everything out because I was the only one thinking ahead.

She looked directly into his eyes.

D’NISHAWe have a child to think about, Anthony. This isn’t just about you and me anymore.

Anthony’s irritation began to fade, replaced by something more complicated.

He loved his child. He wanted to believe he was doing enough.

But D’Nisha was telling him that wanting to be a good father and partner wasn’t the same as consistently acting like one.

ANTHONYSo what are you saying? That I’m failing you?
D’NISHAI’m saying that I’m tired of feeling alone while being in a relationship.

Anthony looked down.

For a moment, the only sound in the room was the quiet hum of the television.

Then D’Nisha brought up the one subject she had been trying to avoid.

Shayla.

Scene 4 — Shayla’s Name Changes the Conversation

INT. LIVING ROOM — EVENING

D’Nisha stood again, her expression growing serious.

D’NISHAAnd while we’re talking about responsibilities, let’s talk about Shayla.

Anthony immediately stiffened.

ANTHONYWhat does Shayla have to do with this?
D’NISHAEverything, Anthony. Absolutely everything.
ANTHONYHere we go again.
D’NISHANo, we’re not doing that. You’re going to listen to me this time.

She took a breath before continuing.

D’NISHAYour ex-wife keeps coming to you for money. Every time she needs something, she calls, and somehow you always find a way to help her.
ANTHONYShe’s the mother of my children. I’m not going to turn my back on her.
D’NISHAI never asked you to turn your back on your children.

Her answer came quickly.

D’NISHADon’t confuse taking care of your children with paying for every problem Shayla brings to your doorstep.

Anthony’s jaw tightened.

ANTHONYYou don’t know everything she deals with.
D’NISHAAnd you don’t seem to understand everything I deal with!

Her voice rose, then she deliberately lowered it.

D’NISHAWhen Shayla needs money, you respond immediately. When I tell you something needs to be done for our home, I have to explain it five different ways. When she calls, you make time. When I need you to listen, you act like I’m giving you a headache.
ANTHONYThat’s not fair.
D’NISHANeither is asking me to build a future with you while you keep spending your time and money trying to solve problems from your past.

Anthony took a step toward her.

ANTHONYShayla and I have history. We have children together. There are things you won’t understand.
D’NISHAI understand more than you think. I understand that your children deserve support. I understand
