BIG KAI’S FATHER RETURNS — AND D’NISHA IS FORCED TO FACE THE TRUTH
The house was silent. Big Kai was about to walk out the door forever — but before he could leave, someone from his past returned with a truth that could change everything.
SCENE 1 — THE DOOR WAS ALREADY OPEN

The house was unusually quiet.

But the silence was about to be broken by a truth nobody was prepared to hear.

D’Nisha stood near the front door, her arms crossed tightly.

Big Kai stood several feet away, confused and hurt by the words she had just spoken.

D’NISHA You can’t stay here anymore.
BIG KAI What are you talking about?
D’NISHA I said you need to leave.

Big Kai slowly shook his head.

BIG KAI Where am I supposed to go?
D’NISHA That’s not my problem.

Big Kai looked toward the hallway.

Anthony was still not home.

For a moment, he seemed to wonder whether he should call him.

D’NISHA Don’t call Anthony.
BIG KAI Why?
D’NISHA Because I’ve already made my decision.

Big Kai lowered his eyes.

He had never expected things to reach this point.

Slowly, he picked up his bag.

He walked toward the door.

D’Nisha watched him without saying another word.

But just as Big Kai reached for the handle — a car stopped outside.

Both of them froze.

D’Nisha looked toward the window.

Big Kai slowly turned around.

The sound of a car door closing echoed outside.

Then footsteps approached the house.

Big Kai’s expression changed. He knew those footsteps.
SCENE 2 — THE MAN AT THE DOOR

The front door opened.

A man stepped inside.

Big Kai froze completely.

D’Nisha recognized him immediately.

It was Kai’s father.

His eyes went straight to his son.

Then he noticed the bag in Big Kai’s hand.

KAI’S FATHER Where are you going?

Big Kai didn’t answer immediately.

KAI’S FATHER Why does my son have a bag in his hand?
D’NISHA This is a family matter.
KAI’S FATHER My son is my family.

D’Nisha looked away.

D’NISHA I’m not trying to hurt him.
KAI’S FATHER Then why are you putting him out?

Big Kai quietly placed his bag on the floor.

BIG KAI Dad, please.
KAI’S FATHER No, Kai. I want you to tell me what happened.
D’NISHA Nothing happened.
“Nothing?” His father pointed toward the bag. “Then why was my son leaving this house?”
SCENE 3 — D’NISHA’S DECISION

D’Nisha took a few steps backward.

She was beginning to realize that the situation had changed completely.

She had expected Big Kai to leave quietly.

She had expected Anthony to come home later and deal with everything.

She had not expected Kai’s father to walk through that door.
D’NISHA Kai has caused enough problems.
KAI’S FATHER What problems?
D’NISHA He knows what he has done.
BIG KAI D’Nisha, I never wanted any trouble.
D’NISHA But trouble keeps following you.
KAI’S FATHER Enough.

The room became silent.

KAI’S FATHER If there is something my son has done, say it clearly.

D’Nisha opened her mouth.

But no words came.

KAI’S FATHER You wanted him out of this house. But you don’t want to tell me why.
D’NISHA Because you wouldn’t understand.
KAI’S FATHER Try me.
D’NISHA I just want peace.
KAI’S FATHER Peace doesn’t come from forcing family members out of a home.
“But I know my son.”
SCENE 4 — A FATHER’S WARNING

Kai’s father walked toward Big Kai.

He placed a hand on his son’s shoulder.

KAI’S FATHER You’re coming with me if you want to leave.
BIG KAI Dad…
KAI’S FATHER But you are not leaving this house because someone wants to erase you from the family.
D’NISHA Nobody is erasing him.
KAI’S FATHER Then what are you doing?

D’Nisha couldn’t answer.

KAI’S FATHER People spend years praying for a child.

He looked at Big Kai.

KAI’S FATHER I spent years believing I might never have a son.

Big Kai lowered his head.

KAI’S FATHER And when Kai came into my life, I promised myself that no matter how difficult life became, I would never turn my back on him.
D’NISHA You think I don’t know that?
KAI’S FATHER Then prove it.
D’NISHA What do you want me to do?
KAI’S FATHER: Tell the truth.
SCENE 5 — THE SECRET HE ALREADY KNEW

D’Nisha’s expression changed.

D’NISHA What truth?

Kai’s father didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, he looked around the room.

Then he noticed something sitting on a nearby table.

A folder.

D’Nisha quickly stepped toward it.

But Kai’s father noticed.

KAI’S FATHER What is that?
D’NISHA Nothing.

She reached for the folder.

His hand stopped her.

KAI’S FATHER Why are you hiding it?
BIG KAI What’s in that folder?

D’Nisha said nothing.

KAI’S FATHER Kai, did you know about this?
BIG KAI No.
D’NISHA You shouldn’t have come here.
KAI’S FATHER Maybe. But I came because someone called me.
BIG KAI Who called you?
D’Nisha’s face went pale.
D’NISHA Who told you?
KAI’S FATHER Does it matter?
D’NISHA Yes.
KAI’S FATHER Then you already know why I’m here.
Big Kai looked between them. Something had been happening inside the house — and his father already knew more than he was saying.
SCENE 6 — ANTHONY MUST HEAR IT

The sound of a car approaching suddenly came from outside.

Everyone went silent.

D’Nisha looked toward the window.

Kai’s father didn’t move.

Big Kai stood beside his father.

The car stopped.

A moment later, the front door opened.

Anthony walked inside.

ANTHONY What happened?

Nobody answered.

Anthony looked at Big Kai’s bag near the door.

ANTHONY Why is that bag there?
KAI’S FATHER Because D’Nisha wanted him to leave.
ANTHONY Is that true?
D’NISHA I was trying to protect this family.
ANTHONY From what?

D’Nisha couldn’t answer.

KAI’S FATHER You need to hear something.
ANTHONY What?
KAI’S FATHER: Ask her about that folder.
ANTHONY What is in there?
D’NISHA Anthony, please.
ANTHONY No. If my father came here because of something happening in this house, I want to know.
Silence filled the room.
KAI’S FATHER She wasn’t planning to tell you.
ANTHONY Tell me what?
SCENE 7 — THE TRUTH BEHIND THE DOOR

Kai’s father walked toward the folder.

He picked it up.

D’NISHA Don’t open that.
ANTHONY Why?

She stopped.

She had no answer.

KAI’S FATHER Because once you open it, nothing in this house will be the same.

Anthony looked at Big Kai.

ANTHONY Did you know about this?
BIG KAI No.
ANTHONY Then you need to tell me.
D’NISHA I was scared.
ANTHONY Scared of what?

D’Nisha loo
