SCENE 1 — THE QUIET CONVERSATION

The room was unusually quiet.

Larry sat across from Lennit at a table, surrounded by several people involved in an important engagement discussion. The atmosphere was serious, but there was no conflict. Everyone was focused on the same matter—the engagement of a young man who was not Larry’s son.

Larry leaned forward and listened carefully.

LARRY

“I just want everything handled the right way. This is an important decision, and everyone should be comfortable before anything is finalized.”

Lennit nodded.

LENNIT

“That’s exactly why we’re talking about it now. Nobody wants to rush anything.”

Everyone continued discussing the engagement plans, the families involved, and what needed to happen next.

Nothing about the conversation appeared secretive.

But outside the room, someone was approaching.

And Larry had no idea that the peaceful atmosphere was about to disappear.

SCENE 2 — BETHANY WALKS IN

Footsteps suddenly echoed outside the room.

The conversation slowed.

Larry looked toward the door just as it opened.

Bethany walked inside.

She stopped immediately.

Her eyes moved from Larry to Lennit and then to everyone sitting around the table.

Her expression changed.

BETHANY

“What are you doing?”

Larry looked confused.

LARRY

“What do you mean?”

Bethany pointed toward the table.

BETHANY

“Why are you sitting in here with them?”

Larry remained calm.

LARRY

“We’re just having a conversation.”

Bethany looked directly at Lennit.

BETHANY

“A conversation about what?”

LARRY

“The engagement.”

Bethany’s expression hardened.

She clearly wasn’t satisfied with the answer.

SCENE 3 — THE QUESTIONS BEGIN

Bethany stepped closer to Larry.

BETHANY

“Why didn’t you tell me you were sitting in here?”

Larry slowly stood.

LARRY

“Because there was nothing to hide.”

Bethany immediately interrupted.

BETHANY

“Then why does this look so strange?”

Larry shook his head.

LARRY

“It only looks strange because you’re making it strange.”

The room became silent.

Larry tried to explain that everyone had gathered simply to discuss the engagement.

But Bethany continued questioning him.

BETHANY

“So that’s all this is?”

LARRY

“Yes.”

Bethany stared at him.

She seemed convinced that Larry was leaving something out.

BETHANY

“You always have an explanation.”

LARRY

“Because there is nothing else going on.”

SCENE 4 — THE ARGUMENT EXPLODES

The tension inside the room grew with every word.

Larry tried to calm Bethany down.

LARRY

“Bethany, please. This isn’t what you think.”

BETHANY

“Then tell me what I’m supposed to think.”

Larry took a breath.

LARRY

“We’re discussing the engagement. That’s all.”

Bethany shook her head.

BETHANY

“You always say that.”

Lennit finally tried to explain.

LENNIT

“Bethany, this really is just a conversation about the engagement.”

Bethany turned toward Lennit.

BETHANY

“I wasn’t talking to you.”

Larry immediately stepped in.

LARRY

“Don’t talk to her like that.”

Bethany looked back at Larry.

BETHANY

“So now you’re defending her?”

LARRY

“That’s not what I said.”

The misunderstanding was getting worse.

SCENE 5 — EVERYTHING CHANGES

Bethany stepped directly in front of Larry.

BETHANY

“You should have told me.”

LARRY

“There was nothing to tell you.”

For a moment, everyone thought the argument might finally end.

Then Bethany suddenly lost control and struck Larry.

The entire room froze.

Larry stepped backward in shock.

LARRY

“What did you just do?”

Bethany remained furious.

BETHANY

“I told you I don’t like seeing you sitting here with her.”

Larry tried to keep his distance.

LARRY

“This has nothing to do with what you think.”

When Bethany moved toward him again, the people around the table immediately stood.

LENNIT

“Bethany, stop!”

The peaceful engagement discussion had completely disappeared.

SCENE 6 — THE QUESTION THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING

After the confrontation, nobody knew what to say.

Larry looked hurt and confused.

LARRY

“Why are you doing this?”

Bethany stared at him.

BETHANY

“Because I’m tired of finding you in situations I don’t understand.”

Larry pointed toward the table.

LARRY

“Look at everyone here. We were talking about the engagement. That’s it.”

Bethany looked around the room.

Then her voice became quieter.

BETHANY

“Larry… tell me the truth.”

LARRY

“I am telling you the truth.”

Bethany shook her head.

BETHANY

“No. There is something you’re not telling me.”

Larry frowned.

LARRY

“What are you talking about?”

Bethany looked toward Lennit.

BETHANY

“Maybe Lennit knows something you don’t want me to know.”

Larry immediately turned toward Lennit.

LARRY

“Lennit… what is she talking about?”

Lennit remained silent.

That silence made Larry even more concerned.

SCENE 7 — THE SECRET BETHANY DISCOVERED

Bethany slowly turned back toward Larry.

BETHANY

“We’ll finish this conversation somewhere else.”

Larry looked confused.

LARRY

“Why?”

Bethany reached for the door.

Then she stopped.

BETHANY

“Because what I came here to ask you is much bigger than this engagement.”

Everyone in the room looked at one another.

Larry’s face became serious.

LARRY

“Bethany, what did you find out?”

Bethany slowly turned around.

Her expression was completely different now.

BETHANY

“When you hear what I found out, you may finally understand why I walked into this room.”

Larry stared at her.

Bethany opened the door.

Before leaving, she looked back one final time.

BETHANY

“Larry… you better be ready to hear the truth.”

She stepped outside.

The door slowly closed behind her.

Larry remained completely still.

He had no idea what Bethany had discovered—or why Lennit’s silence suddenly seemed so important.
