Shayla, Angelina & Baby Kai | The Untold Story

The Heartbreaking Truth About Baby Kai

Secrets • Betrayal • A Mother’s Choice

Chapter 1: Anthony’s Accusation

Shayla stared at the small wooden crib in the corner of her tiny apartment. Inside, three-month-old Kai squirmed under his blanket, completely oblivious to the chaos unraveling around him. Standing across from her, leaning against the doorway with his arms crossed tightly over his chest, was Anthony. The tension in the room was suffocating.

“I’m not doing this anymore, Anthony,” Shayla said, her voice sharp, cutting through the silence. “My new boyfriend is moving in next week. We’re starting fresh, and there’s no room for this. Take Kai. I can’t look after your baby anymore.”

Anthony laughed, a hollow, bitter sound that echoed off the bare walls. He didn’t step forward. He didn’t even look toward the crib.

“My baby?” Anthony sneered, shaking his head. “Don’t pin this on me, Shayla. Kai isn’t mine, and you know it.”

Chapter 2: The Painful Revelation

Shayla’s eyes narrowed, her voice rising an octave. “How can you even say that? He is your baby! You were right there the whole time! How can you just turn around now and act like you owe him nothing?”

“Because I can count, Shayla,” Anthony fired back, stepping into the room, his eyes dark with resentment. “Do you think I’m stupid? Nine months before Kai was born, you were barely coming home. You were seeing that guy from the north side behind my back.”

“When you got pregnant, you panicked and claimed it was mine so I’d pay for the apartment and cover the doctor bills. He’s someone else’s kid. You had an affair while we were together, got pregnant by him, and now that your new man doesn’t want another guy’s child around, you’re trying to dump him on me.”

Shayla opened her mouth to argue, but the truth hung heavy between them. She couldn’t look Anthony in the eye. The silence spoke louder than any lie she could construct on the spot.

Chapter 3: Anthony Walks Away

Anthony took a step back toward the front door. “I’m done being your fallback plan. Good luck, Shayla.”

With a heavy thud, the door slammed shut, leaving Shayla alone with the quiet whimpers of the baby in the crib. Panic washed over her as she realized Anthony had no intention of taking Kai.

Overwhelmed, Shayla pulled out her phone and dialed her mother, Angelina.

“Mom, you need to come over right now,” Shayla sobbed into the phone. “Anthony just walked out. He refuses to take Kai, and my boyfriend said he’s leaving me if the baby stays here. I can’t handle this.”

Chapter 4: Angelina’s Cold Decision

Within twenty minutes, Angelina arrived. She didn’t offer a motherly hug or words of comfort. Angelina was a practical, hardened woman who viewed life through a lens of survival and convenience. She glanced at the infant, then at her daughter’s distressed face.

“So Anthony pulled out completely?” Angelina asked, sitting at the kitchen table.

“He claims Kai isn’t his,” Shayla muttered, pacing back and forth. “He brought up the stuff from last year. Mom, what am I supposed to do? My boyfriend made it clear—he wants a life with me, not a family with someone else’s baby. I’m young, I can’t sacrifice my whole future for this. We can’t keep him.”

Angelina sat in thought for a long moment, tapping her acrylic nails against the tabletop. She looked over at Kai, who was now awake, looking up at the ceiling with wide, innocent eyes.

“If Anthony won’t take him, and you can’t raise him, then we only have one real option,” Angelina said coldly. “We take him to the baby house. A drop-off center or an orphanage. Let the state handle it. We can’t manage this baby, Shayla. Neither of us has the time, the money, or the patience.”

Chapter 5: A Difficult Choice

Shayla felt a sharp sting of guilt, but it was quickly washed away by a sense of relief. The thought of being free from the burden of motherhood—free to start over with her new partner—was far more enticing than the reality of raising a child on her own.

“Are you sure?” Shayla whispered.

“It’s the only way,” Angelina replied, standing up. “Pack his things. A few diapers, a bottle, and his blanket. We’re doing this tonight before you change your mind.”

Together, they packed a single small canvas bag. Shayla wrapped Kai in a blue knitted blanket, lifting him from the crib. For a fleeting second, as the baby rested his small head against her shoulder, a wave of maternal warmth flushed through her.

But then she remembered her boyfriend’s ultimatum, the unpaid bills, and the life she wanted to live. She hardened her heart.

Chapter 6: The Silent Journey

They walked down to Angelina’s car under the cover of the dim evening light. The city streets were quiet, bathed in the orange glow of streetlamps. The drive to the local child care center was silent. Neither woman spoke; the weight of what they were about to do hung thick in the air.

Angelina pulled the car up near the side entrance of the facility— a safe-haven baby drop-off location attached to the city’s family services building.

“Go on,” Angelina said, looking out the windshield. “Just take him to the safe drop-off box or leave him at the door and ring the buzzer. Don’t leave any names.”

Shayla unbuckled the car seat and held Kai close one last time. The infant cooed softly, reaching out his tiny hand, his fingers brushing against her cheek. Tears welled up in Shayla’s eyes, but she pushed the feeling down. She stepped out of the vehicle into the cold night air.

Chapter 7: Goodbye, Baby Kai

Walking briskly toward the secure drop-off shelter, she placed the bundle down gently inside the heated, secure bassinet built into the wall of the building. She tucked the blanket tightly around him and slipped the small canvas bag of supplies beside him.

“I’m sorry, Kai,” she whispered softly. “I just can’t do this.”

She pressed the silent alert button that notified the staff inside that a child had been safely deposited, turned on her heel, and walked away without looking back.

Her tiny baby lay behind, unaware of the heartbreaking decision his mother had just made. All he knew was the warmth of his blanket and the unfamiliar sounds surrounding him.

Chapter 8: A New Chapter Begins

Shayla got back into her mother’s car, pulling the door shut. Angelina didn’t ask any questions. She put the car in drive, and they pulled away into the night.

Neither woman looked back at the building. They were leaving the past behind, believing that a new chapter—built on difficult choices and broken ties—was about to begin.

But little did Shayla and Angelina know that their decision could change Kai’s life forever. Would Anthony ever discover what happened to the baby? Would the truth about Kai’s real father finally come to light? And would Shayla regret walking away from her own child?
