LARRY’S SUDDEN HEART ATTACK
A CINEMATIC DRAMA SCREENPLAY
FADE IN:
INT. LARRY’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – EVENING
The house is quiet.
A television plays softly in the background, but nobody is paying attention to it.
LARRY stands near the center of the living room. His face looks exhausted. His eyes are tired.
He has clearly been trying to explain himself for a long time.
Across from him stands SAD. She looks frustrated and emotional.
Larry takes a slow breath, trying once again to make her understand.
LARRY
Sad, please… just listen to me for a minute.
SAD
I’ve been listening, Larry. But every time you explain something, it just creates another problem.
LARRY
That’s not what I’m trying to do. I’m trying to make you understand what actually happened.
THE ARGUMENT CONTINUES
Larry slowly walks toward the couch and sits down. His breathing is heavier now.
LARRY
Because I’m trying to fix everything. I’m trying to keep everybody together. I’m trying to make sure nobody gets hurt.
SAD
Larry, you can’t keep carrying everybody’s problems on your shoulders.
LARRY
I know. But somebody has to.
A long silence fills the room.
Larry looks down at the floor. His hands tremble slightly.
LARRY FEELS WEAK
LARRY
I’m just tired, Sad.
SAD
Tired of what?
LARRY
Tired of fighting. Tired of explaining myself. Tired of trying to make everybody happy.
His voice cracks.
Sad takes a small step toward him.
SAD
Larry…
Larry raises his hand gently.
LARRY
No. Please. Let me finish.
LARRY’S HEART ATTACK
Larry takes another breath, but this time it is much harder.
He suddenly places a hand against his chest.
His face becomes pale.
SAD
Larry? What’s wrong?
LARRY
My chest…
Larry suddenly loses his balance.
SAD
Larry!
His knees buckle, and he collapses onto the floor.
SAD
Oh my God! Larry! Open your eyes!
CALLING THE AMBULANCE
Sad drops beside Larry. She quickly reaches for her phone with shaking hands.
SAD
Please send an ambulance! He’s unconscious! I think he’s having a heart attack!
She ends the call and grabs Larry’s hand.
SAD
Larry, please… you have to wake up.
Sad begins crying as she waits desperately for help to arrive.
THE AMBULANCE ARRIVES
The sound of an ambulance siren approaches.
Red emergency lights flash across the street.
Two paramedics rush into the house carrying medical equipment.
SAD
He’s inside! Please hurry!
The paramedics immediately begin checking Larry.
PARAMEDIC
Ma’am, please give us some space.
SAD
Is he going to be okay?
PARAMEDIC
We’re going to do everything we can.
RUSHING TO THE HOSPITAL
The paramedics place Larry onto a stretcher and rush him outside.
SAD
Larry… I’m right here.
Sad climbs into the ambulance with him.
The ambulance doors close.
The siren starts again as the ambulance speeds toward the hospital.
INSIDE THE AMBULANCE
Larry lies unconscious on the stretcher while the paramedics continue working.
Sad holds his hand tightly.
SAD
You have to fight, Larry.
SAD
You were trying so hard to explain everything to me. I should have listened.
SAD
Please don’t leave me.
THE HOSPITAL
The ambulance arrives at the emergency entrance.
Doctors and nurses rush Larry inside.
SAD
Please! Please save him!
A nurse gently stops Sad outside the emergency room.
NURSE
Ma’am, you need to wait here.
Sad watches the emergency room doors close.
WAITING FOR LARRY
Sad sits alone in the waiting area.
Her hands are tightly clasped together.
She stares at the emergency room doors, praying for good news.
SAD
I’m sorry, Larry. I should’ve known you were hurting.
SAD
Please come back.
THE DOCTOR’S UPDATE
A doctor finally walks out of the emergency room.
SAD
Doctor! How is Larry?
DOCTOR
He’s in critical condition, but we’re treating him.
SAD
Is he alive?
DOCTOR
Yes. We’re doing everything possible to stabilize him.
Sad covers her mouth and begins crying with relief.
THE FINAL MOMENT
Sad returns to her seat.
She refuses to leave the hospital.
She keeps staring at the emergency room doors.
Waiting.
Praying.
Hoping.
SAD
Please give him another chance.
The camera slowly pulls away as the hospital corridor becomes quiet.
Behind the emergency room doors, Larry is still fighting.
