A CINEMATIC DRAMA SCREENPLAY

FADE IN — LIVING ROOM

INT. LARRY’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – EVENING

The house is unusually quiet. Larry stands beside the couch, one hand pressed against his chest. His face is pale, and sweat glistens on his forehead.

He has been dealing with unbearable stress for days. Arguments, misunderstandings, and emotional pressure have finally taken their toll.

SAD

Larry, you need to calm down. You’ve been stressing yourself out all day. Whatever is happening, we can figure it out.

THE PAIN BEGINS

LARRY

You don’t understand, Sad. I’ve tried everything. I’ve tried to keep this house together, keep everybody happy, and make sure nobody feels like they’re being abandoned.

Larry takes a deep breath. Suddenly, a sharp pain shoots through his chest. He grips the edge of the table.

SAD

Larry? What’s wrong with you?

AN UNEXPECTED COLLAPSE

LARRY

I… I don’t know.

He tries to straighten up, but the pain intensifies. His breathing becomes shallow.

SAD

You don’t look right. Sit down before you fall.

Larry slowly lowers himself onto the couch, pressing his palm against his chest as he struggles to breathe.

SAD CALLS FOR HELP

LARRY

Something’s wrong. My chest… it hurts so bad. I can’t… I can’t breathe properly.

SAD

Larry! Look at me! Stay with me!

Larry’s head drops slightly. For a terrifying moment, he cannot respond. Sad rushes to his side, trembling with fear.

AN AMBULANCE IS ON THE WAY

SAD

Larry, please talk to me! Can you hear me?

LARRY

Sad… something’s happening to me.

Sad grabs his phone with shaking hands and dials emergency services.

SAD — INTO PHONE

Please, I need an ambulance immediately! My friend is having severe chest pain, and he’s struggling to breathe. He looks like he’s about to pass out!

“YOUR LIFE MATTERS!”

SAD

Larry, help is coming. Just stay with me, okay?

LARRY

I thought… I could handle everything. I thought if I kept pushing through, things would eventually get better.

SAD

Forget everything else right now. Forget the arguments. Forget the problems. None of that matters at this moment. Your life matters, Larry!

PARAMEDICS ARRIVE

Suddenly, Larry’s eyes close again, and his body slumps against the couch.

SAD

Larry! Come on, Larry! Open your eyes!

The sound of approaching sirens grows louder. An ambulance pulls up outside the house, and two paramedics hurry toward the front door carrying emergency equipment.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE

SAD

Thank God you’re here! He’s inside. He’s having terrible chest pain, and he almost passed out!

PARAMEDIC 1

Take us to him. How long has this been happening?

SAD

It started a few minutes ago. Suddenly, he started sweating and couldn’t breathe properly.

“PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!”

The paramedics kneel beside Larry, assess his condition, check his pulse and breathing, and connect monitoring equipment.

PARAMEDIC 1

Sir, can you hear me? Open your eyes if you can hear me.

LARRY

What’s… happening?

PARAMEDIC 1

You’re having a medical emergency. We’re going to help you.

LARRY’S HEARTBREAKING WORDS

SAD

Is he going to be okay?

PARAMEDIC 2

He’s experiencing serious symptoms. We need to get him to the hospital immediately.

LARRY

My chest… please make it stop.

SAD

Larry, you’re going to get through this. You have to fight.

RUSHED INTO THE AMBULANCE

LARRY

Tell everyone… I didn’t want things to end like this.

SAD

Don’t talk like that. You’re going to the hospital, and you’re going to get the care you need.

The paramedics carefully move Larry onto a stretcher and wheel him outside. Sad follows, his heart pounding with fear.

INT. AMBULANCE — MOVING

Red lights flash across the ambulance interior. Larry lies on the stretcher while a paramedic monitors his condition and communicates with the hospital.

SAD

Larry, can you hear me?

LARRY

Sad… am I having a heart attack?

SAD

I don’t know yet. The doctors are going to find out. Just concentrate on getting help.

LARRY ADMITS HIS FEAR

LARRY

I’m scared.

Those two words break Sad’s heart. Larry has always tried to appear strong, even when everything around him was falling apart.

SAD

I know you’re scared. Anyone would be. But you’re not alone, Larry. I’m right here with you.

LARRY

I haven’t been able to sleep. My mind never stops. Every time I close my eyes, I think about everything that’s going wrong.

“YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE STRONG”

LARRY

I tried to keep everybody together. I kept telling myself that if I stayed strong, everybody else would be okay.

SAD

You don’t have to be strong every second of your life. You’re allowed to be tired. You’re allowed to need help.

LARRY

I wish I’d understood that sooner.

ARRIVAL AT THE HOSPITAL

EXT. CITY HOSPITAL – EMERGENCY ENTRANCE – NIGHT

The ambulance stops beneath the bright emergency entrance lights. Hospital staff are already waiting.

The doors open, and the paramedics rapidly wheel Larry inside. Sad jumps out and follows them.

SAD

Please, somebody help him! He’s in terrible pain!

SEPARATED AT THE EMERGENCY ROOM

NURSE

Sir, please give the medical team some room. We’re taking him straight into the emergency department.

SAD

Can I go in with him?

NURSE

Not right now. We need to examine him and stabilize his condition first.

Sad watches as Larry disappears behind the emergency treatment doors. The doors close, leaving Sad alone.

DOCTORS BEGIN THE EMERGENCY EVALUATION

INT. HOSPITAL – EMERGENCY ROOM – NIGHT

Doctors and nurses gather around Larry. A doctor begins assessing his chest pain and breathing while the team performs an urgent cardiac evaluation.

DOCTOR

We need an immediate ECG and blood tests. Continue monitoring his heart rhythm and vital signs.

Monitoring equipment beeps steadily as the medical team works urgently.

“AM I GOING TO DIE?”

LARRY

Doctor… am I going to die?

DOCTOR

I understand that you’re frightened. Right now, our priority is to find out what’s happening and treat you as quickly as possible.

LARRY

My chest hurts so much.

DOCTOR

We’re taking your symptoms seriously. Keep telling us how you feel, and we’ll keep monitoring you closely.

WAITING FOR THE TEST RESULTS

The ECG results are reviewed, and the doctors assess the possibility of a heart attack. Additional tests are ordered to determine the cause and severity of Larry’s condition.

NURSE

Larry, you’re in the right place. We’re looking after you.

LARRY

I never thought I’d end up here. I have so much left to fix.

DOCTOR

Right now, don’t worry about fixing anything outside this room. Let us take care of your medical needs first.

SAD WAITS FOR ANSWERS

INT. HOSPITAL – EMERGENCY WAITING AREA – NIGHT

Sad paces back and forth. His hands tremble. Every time the emergency doors open, he turns immediately, hoping someone will bring good news.

DOCTOR

Are you here with Larry?

SAD

Yes! I’m his friend. Please tell me he’s okay.

THE DOCTOR EXPLAINS LARRY’S CONDITION

DOCTOR

Larry arrived with severe chest pain and difficulty breathing. We’re evaluating him for a possible heart attack and treating his symptoms while we investigate.

SAD

A heart attack? Can I see him?

DOCTOR

It’s a serious possibility, but we need to consider his test results before confirming the diagnosis. Please stay nearby.

SAD BREAKS DOWN

SAD

He was talking to me just moments before everything happened. He was telling me how tired he was.

I knew he was stressed, but I never imagined it would turn into something like this.

DOCTOR

Stress can affect a person’s well-being, but we can’t assume it’s the cause of his symptoms. The medical evaluation is essential.

SAD

Please do everything you can for him.

LARRY ASKS ABOUT HIS HEART

INT. HOSPITAL – EMERGENCY ROOM – LATER THAT NIGHT

Larry lies quietly in the hospital bed. The medical team continues monitoring his heart and reviewing his test results.

LARRY

Is it definitely a heart attack?

DOCTOR

We’re still assessing the results. We’ll explain the diagnosis and the next steps once we’ve reviewed the necessary tests.

“I DON’T WANT TO DIE”

LARRY

I thought I could ignore the pain and keep going.

DOCTOR

Severe or unexplained chest pain should never be ignored. If you experience symptoms like this again, seek emergency medical attention immediately.

LARRY

I don’t want to die, Doctor. I want another chance. I want to make things right with the people I love.

THINKING ABOUT HIS LIFE

DOCTOR

For now, focus on your recovery. The other conversations can wait until you’re medically stable.

Larry turns toward the window. Outside, the city lights shine against the darkness.

He thinks about the arguments, the anger, the words he cannot take back, and the people he may have hurt while trying to hold everything together.

For the first time in a long while, he realizes how fragile life can be.

SAD FINALLY GETS TO SEE LARRY

INT. HOSPITAL – LARRY’S TREATMENT AREA – NIGHT

A nurse approaches Sad and gives him permission to see Larry briefly. Sad follows her inside.

Sad steps beside Larry’s bed. Larry turns his head and looks at him. For several seconds, neither man speaks.

Then Larry reaches out his hand. Sad takes it immediately.

AN EMOTIONAL APOLOGY

LARRY

I’m sorry I scared you.

SAD

Don’t apologize. Just concentrate on getting better.

LARRY

When I thought something was happening to my heart, all I could think about was everything I hadn’t said.

SAD

You still have time to say those things, Larry. But you need to take care of yourself first.

“YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING ALONE”

LARRY

I’ve been so caught up in everybody else’s problems that I forgot I was falling apart too.

SAD

You don’t have to solve every problem alone. And you don’t have to destroy yourself trying to keep everybody happy.

LARRY

Promise me something.

SAD

What?

A PROMISE THAT COULD CHANGE EVERYTHING

LARRY

If I start pushing everybody away again, remind me of tonight. Remind me that life is more important than winning an argument.

SAD

I promise. But you have to promise me that you’ll listen to your body and get help when something feels wrong.

LARRY

I promise.

A tear rolls down Larry’s cheek. Sad wipes it away gently.

THE NIGHT THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

SAD

You’re not alone in this.

Larry closes his eyes, holding Sad’s hand as the hospital monitors continue their steady rhythm.

The future remains uncertain. His test results are still being reviewed, and the doctors have not yet confirmed exactly what happened.

But one thing is clear: Larry’s frightening collapse has changed everything.

FADE OUT

The arguments can wait.

The misunderstandings can wait.

For tonight, all that matters is whether Larry will recover.

The hospital monitors continue beeping as Sad remains beside Larry, hoping for better n
