For a few seconds, nobody said a word.
Brooke stood in front of Larry, breathing heavily, her eyes filled with anger and frustration.
Larry stared at her in disbelief.
He had never seen Brooke look at him this way before.

Brooke stood near the center of the room.
Larry was several feet away, trying to remain calm.

LARRY
Brooke, you need to calm down. I’m not going to keep arguing with you if you’re going to talk to me like this.
BROOKE
You never listen to me! You only care about controlling everything I do.
LARRY’S WARNING
LARRY
This isn’t about controlling you. It’s about making sure you don’t destroy your life over someone else’s influence.
Brooke immediately knew who he was talking about.

THE ENTIRE ARGUMENT.
BROOKE
Don’t bring Isaiah into this. You don’t even know him.
THE CONFRONTATION
LARRY
I know enough. And I’ve watched the way you’ve changed since you’ve been listening to him.
BROOKE
Maybe I’ve changed because I’m finally making my own decisions!
LARRY
Making your own decisions doesn’t mean disrespecting everyone who cares about you.
BROOKE FIRES BACK
BROOKE
Respect? You want to talk to me about respect? Where was that respect when you kept treating me like a child?
Larry’s jaw tightened. He was trying not to lose his temper.
BROOKE
You never understand me. You never understood what I wanted. And now you’re suddenly acting like you know what’s best for me?
LARRY
Because I’m your father.
BROOKE
And I’m not a little girl anymore!
FLASHBACK — BETHANY’S WARNING
BETHANY
Larry, you need to talk to Brooke. She’s becoming disrespectful toward me.
LARRY
I’ll talk to her.
BETHANY
You always say that. But you never actually do anything.
BETHANY SPEAKS HER TRUTH
BETHANY
I know I’m not her biological mother. Shara is her real mother. I understand that.
But I’m still part of this family. And I deserve some respect.
I’m not asking you to choose me over Brooke. I’m asking you to teach her that she can’t speak to people however she wants.

Larry looked back at Brooke.
For the first time, Bethany’s words felt different.
MAYBE BETHANY

TURN HIM AGAINST BROOKE.
MAYBE SHE WAS RIGHT.
Maybe she had simply been trying to protect the family from reaching this exact moment.
THE REALIZATION
LARRY
I’m just realizing something.
BROOKE

LARRY
Bethany tried to warn me.
BROOKE
Of course. Now this is Bethany’s fault?
THE RESPECT ISSUE
LARRY
No. That’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying maybe I should have listened to her.
BROOKE
She never liked me.
LARRY
That’s not true.
BROOKE
She’s not my mother.
LARRY
I know. But that doesn’t mean Bethany doesn’t deserve respect.

I’m trying to stop you from making a decision you’re going to regret.
BROOKE

Brooke turned toward the stairs.
LARRY
Brooke! You’re angry right now. You don’t know what you’re saying.
BROOKE
I know exactly what I’m saying. I want to be with Isaiah. I want to build a future with him.
BROOKE
And I don’t want you deciding my future anymore.
THE MOMENT EVERYTHING STOPPED
Brooke suddenly stepped toward Larry.
Her anger reached a dangerous level.
SHE RAISED
HER HAND.
LARRY FROZE.
SILENCE FILLED THE ROOM.
For a split second, Larry looked shocked.
Brooke stopped herself. Her hand remained in the air.
Slowly, she lowered it.
But the damage had already been done.
BROOKE WALKS AWAY
BROOKE
I’m still leaving.
LARRY
Brooke… Don’t make me watch you walk out that door like this.
BROOKE
Maybe you should have listened to me before tonight.
She walked toward the stairs.
LARRY ALONE
Brooke disappeared upstairs.
A door slammed.
Larry stood alone.
YOU WERE RIGHT.
I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED.
BETHANY WARNED ME.
AND I IGNORED HER.
KITCHEN — LATER THAT NIGHT
Bethany quietly entered the room.
She noticed Larry sitting alone and immediately realized something had happened.
BETHANY
Larry? What happened?
LARRY
You were right.

BETHANY
What happened tonight?
LARRY
She wants to leave.
BETHANY
Leave where?
LARRY
Isaiah’s.
BROOKE WASN’T
