Larry Finds Out Bethany Is Planning to Marry Rob
1. Larry Hears Something He Never Expected
Larry had been thinking about his marriage to Bethany for a long time. Their relationship had reached a difficult point, and there were moments when Larry seriously considered ending it. He had thought about divorce more than once, but every time he came close to making a final decision, something stopped him.
He still remembered the good moments they had shared. He also wondered if their problems could somehow be fixed. Because of that uncertainty, Larry never actually gave Bethany the divorce he had been considering.
Then Larry heard something that completely changed the way he looked at the situation.
He learned that Bethany might be planning to marry another man—and that man’s name was Rob.
The news was difficult enough on its own, but there was another detail that made Larry even more uncomfortable.
Rob was not a stranger. He was Larry’s friend.
2. A Question Larry Cannot Stop Asking
After hearing about Bethany and Rob, Larry could not stop thinking about what it meant. He wondered whether Bethany had already been preparing for a life without him.
Maybe she had been waiting for Larry to officially end their marriage. Maybe she had already decided that, once the divorce happened, she would move forward with Rob.
That possibility created a painful conflict inside Larry.
Larry had spent so much time thinking that he would eventually divorce Bethany. But now that she might actually be ready to move on, he was no longer certain that he wanted to be the person who opened that door.
He knew one thing for sure: he needed to hear the truth directly from Bethany.
3. Larry Finally Confronts Bethany
Later that evening, Larry found Bethany and decided he could not keep the questions to himself.
He did not immediately mention Rob. Instead, he looked at Bethany and said, “I need to ask you something, and I want you to be honest with me.”
Bethany looked at him carefully. “What is it?” she asked.
Larry paused before saying, “Have you really made a decision about getting married again?”
Bethany’s expression changed. She seemed surprised by the question.
“What are you talking about?” she asked.
Larry watched her reaction. He was trying to understand whether she was genuinely confused or simply trying to avoid answering.
Then Larry asked more directly, “Did you really decide that you’re going to marry someone else?”
4. Bethany Asks the One Question Larry Expected
Bethany became quiet for a moment. Instead of answering Larry, she looked at him and asked, “Who told you?”
Larry knew exactly what she meant.
He could have said that Rob had told him everything, but Larry did not want to make it sound as if Rob had personally gone behind Bethany’s back to reveal the situation.
So Larry simply said, “I was at the gym this evening with my friend. That’s where I found out about it.”
Bethany’s expression changed again.
She did not immediately deny that she was planning to marry Rob. She did not confirm it either.
That silence made Larry even more suspicious.
He realized that whatever Bethany was thinking, she was not ready to reveal it yet.
5. Larry Reveals What He Has Been Planning
Larry took a deep breath and decided to tell Bethany something he had kept to himself for a long time.
“I’ve been thinking about divorcing you for a long time,” he said.
Bethany looked at him in surprise.
Larry continued, “There were many times when I thought I should just end this marriage and let both of us move on. But I never actually gave you the divorce.”
He paused before adding, “I kept thinking about it, but I never took that final step.”
Then Larry looked directly at Bethany.
For a moment, Bethany said nothing.
Larry waited for an answer, but she still refused to confirm whether the wedding plans were real.
6. Bethany’s Silence Leaves Larry More Confused
Larry had expected the conversation to give him clarity. Instead, it created even more questions.
He could see that Bethany was thinking carefully about what she wanted to say. But she would not tell him whether she had truly chosen Rob.
Larry finally said, “I’m not asking you to answer everything this second. But I can’t stay stuck in the middle forever.”
Bethany looked at him but remained silent.
Larry walked away realizing that he now had two separate decisions in front of him. He had to decide whether he still wanted to end his marriage, while Bethany had to decide whether she was actually ready to begin a new life with Rob.
The hardest part was that Larry no longer knew whether his feelings were about saving the marriage—or simply refusing to lose Bethany to someone else.
7. The Decision That Could Change Everything
That night, Larry sat alone and replayed the entire conversation in his mind.
He had gone into the conversation looking for one simple answer. Instead, Bethany’s silence had left him questioning everything.
Did she really plan to marry Rob?
Was she waiting for Larry to give her the divorce first?
Or was there another part of the story that Larry had not discovered yet?
Larry knew he could not keep delaying his decision forever. If Bethany had truly chosen Rob, he needed to know before deciding what to do with their marriage.
But Bethany still had not given him the answer he wanted.
