Jnd ) Larry’s Cruise Plan Sparks a Shocking Confrontation as Bethany Finally Reaches Her Breaking Point!

A RELATIONSHIP ON THE EDGE OF COLLAPSE
SCENE 1: BETHANY ARRIVES AT THE MARRIAGE COUNSELOR’S OFFICE
The atmosphere inside the counselor’s office is quiet. Bethany walks in looking frustrated and emotionally exhausted. She takes a seat, takes a deep breath, and tries to organize her thoughts. It is clear that something has been bothering her for quite some time.
The marriage counselor welcomes her and notices the tension on her face.
Bethany, it’s good to see you again. Please, have a seat. How have things been going between you and Larry since our last session?
BETHANYHonestly, not very well. I feel like we’re going around in circles, and every time I think something might finally change, Larry finds another way to make things difficult.
Bethany shakes her head in disappointment.
I’m sorry to hear that. Last time, we discussed the importance of spending quality time together without allowing other people or family responsibilities to interfere. Did you both try to follow that advice?
BETHANYThat’s exactly what I’m trying to explain. I thought we were finally going to have some time together. Larry started talking about taking a cruise with me, and at first, I was actually happy about it. I thought maybe he had finally understood what our relationship needed.
But then he started talking about bringing his brother, Purnal, and his daughter, Brooke, along with us. I mean, seriously? How is that supposed to be a romantic trip for the two of us when he’s already planning to bring other people?
MARRIAGE COUNSELORSo, what you’re saying is that Larry presented this cruise as an opportunity for the two of you to reconnect, but now he wants to turn it into a family vacation?
BETHANYExactly! And that’s what makes me so upset. I don’t have a problem with his family, but there are certain moments when a couple needs to be alone. We cannot improve our relationship if every opportunity to spend time together becomes another family gathering.
The counselor listens carefully, recognizing that Bethany’s frustration goes deeper than the cruise itself.
SCENE 2: THE CRUISE THAT CREATED ANOTHER PROBLEM
Bethany leans forward, becoming more emotional as she continues explaining her concerns.
You told us before that we needed to make our relationship a priority. You specifically said that we should spend time together as a couple, without involving anyone else. I listened to you, and I genuinely wanted to give that advice a chance.
MARRIAGE COUNSELORI remember that conversation very clearly. I explained that relationships require attention, communication, and private moments where both partners can focus on each other.
BETHANYThat’s what I want! But Larry doesn’t seem to understand it. Every time we make a plan, somebody else suddenly becomes part of it. First, it’s his brother. Then it’s Brooke. And before I know it, the entire purpose of our time together disappears.
She looks away, trying to control her emotions.
I was looking forward to this cruise because I thought it could help us. I imagined us enjoying ourselves, talking about our problems, and maybe finding a way to become close again. But now I’m wondering why I even got excited in the first place.
MARRIAGE COUNSELORHave you explained these feelings directly to Larry?
BETHANYOf course I have! I’ve told him more than once that I want us to have some time alone. But he doesn’t seem to take me seriously. He acts as if I’m being unreasonable whenever I ask for something that should be completely normal in a relationship.
MARRIAGE COUNSELORAnd how does he respond when you tell him that bringing other people along makes you uncomfortable?
BETHANYHe makes it seem like I’m the problem. He doesn’t understand why I want privacy, and somehow, I’m always the one who has to explain myself.
I’m tired of having the same conversation again and again. I don’t want another vacation where I feel like I’m competing with everybody else for my own partner’s attention.
SCENE 3: BETHANY QUESTIONS LARRY’S REAL INTENTIONS
The counselor remains silent for a moment, allowing Bethany to express everything she has been holding inside.
Bethany, I want to understand something. Do you feel that Larry genuinely wants to improve your relationship, or have his actions made you question his intentions?
BETHANYThat’s exactly what I’ve started questioning. I honestly don’t think Larry wants things to get better. He says he does, but his behavior tells a completely different story.
MARRIAGE COUNSELORWhat makes you feel that way?
BETHANYBecause if somebody truly wants to fix a relationship, they have to be willing to make changes. You cannot keep doing the same things that hurt your partner and then expect everything to magically improve.
Larry talks about wanting a better relationship, but when it comes to actually doing something about it, he doesn’t follow through. He makes promises, creates expectations, and then does whatever he wants.
MARRIAGE COUNSELORDo you believe he understands how much this situation is affecting you emotionally?
BETHANYI think he understands perfectly well. That’s what makes it even more frustrating. I’ve explained my feelings so many times that I don’t know what else I’m supposed to say.
At this point, I feel like Larry is the biggest reason we’re having so many problems. Instead of helping us move forward, he’s creating new situations that push us backward.
MARRIAGE COUNSELORAnd what would you like to see happen now?
BETHANYI want him to understand that this relationship cannot survive if only one person is trying. I want him to take responsibility for his decisions. Most importantly, I want him to stop treating our relationship like something that can always be put on hold whenever somebody else wants his attention.
The counselor nods slowly.
SCENE 4: THE COUNSELOR DECIDES TO INTERVENE
After listening to Bethany’s complaints, the marriage counselor realizes that another ordinary conversation may not be enough. She knows that Larry also needs to explain his decisions and understand the consequences of his behavior.
Bethany, I think we need to address this situation directly with Larry. I’ve heard your concerns, and I don’t want you to leave here feeling that your feelings have been ignored.
BETHANYI would appreciate that because I don’t think he understands how serious this has become.
MARRIAGE COUNSELORI’m going to ask Larry to come into my office. I want to hear his side of the story, but I also want him to understand that improving a relationship requires more than simply saying the right things.
BETHANYThat’s all I’ve been asking for. I don’t expect everything to become perfect overnight. I just want him to make an honest effort.
MARRIAGE COUNSELORAnd that’s a reasonable expectation. Both partners need to be willing to compromise. You cannot build a healthy relationship when one person constantly feels overlooked.
BETHANYI hope you can make him understand because I’m reaching a point where I don’t know how much more of this I can handle.
MARRIAGE COUNSELORLet’s give him an opportunity to explain himself. Sometimes people don’t realize the impact of their decisions until they’re confronted with the feelings they’ve been ignoring.
The counselor reaches for her phone and prepares to contact Larry.
SCENE 5: LARRY IS CALLED INTO THE OFFICE
A short while later, Larry receives the message asking him to come to the marriage counselor’s office. He eventually arrives, looking somewhat confused about why he has been called in.
He enters the room and notices Bethany sitting beside the counselor. The atmosphere immediately feels uncomfortable.
What’s going on? I wasn’t expecting to be called in today. Is there something I need to know?
MARRIAGE COUNSELORYes, Larry. There’s something important we need to discuss. Bethany has been expressing serious concerns about your relationship, particularly regarding the upcoming cruise.
LARRYThe cruise? What about it?
BETHANYYou know exactly what I’m talking about, Larry. You keep saying we’re supposed to be working on our relationship, but now you want to bring Purnal and Brooke along with us.
LARRYI don’t understand why this has become such a big issue. I thought bringing everyone together would make the trip more enjoyable.
BETHANYFor you, maybe! But have you even considered what I want? I thought this was supposed to be an opportunity for us to spend time together.
LARRYI wasn’t trying to upset you. I just thought it would be nice if everyone could come along.
MARRIAGE COUNSELORLarry, that’s precisely the problem. You’re making decisions based on what you think would be enjoyable without properly considering what Bethany needs from this relationship.
Larry becomes quiet for a moment.
SCENE 6: THE COUNSELOR CONFRONTS LARRY
The counselor adjusts her position and looks directly at Larry. Her tone becomes noticeably more serious.
Larry, I want to remind you of something we discussed during your previous sessions. I advised both of you to spend time together as a couple. Not with family members, not with friends, and not with anyone else. Just the two of you.
LARRYI remember that, but I don’t think bringing my brother and daughter means I don’t care about Bethany.
MARRIAGE COUNSELORThat’s not what I’m saying. Your family is important, and nobody is asking you to ignore them. But you also have a responsibility to your relationship with Bethany.
You cannot expect your relationship to improve if you repeatedly ignore the very advice that was supposed to help you both.
LARRYI understand what you’re saying, but I don’t think I’m doing anything wrong by wanting them to come.
BETHANYThat’s because you never look at it from my perspective! I’m not saying you cannot spend time with your family. I’m saying that sometimes I need you to choose time with me without turning everything into a group activity.
MARRIAGE COUNSELORBethany has been very clear about what she needs. The question is whether you’re willing to listen.
You keep telling Bethany that you want to improve your relationship, but your actions are creating the opposite impression. At some point, you have to recognize that words mean very little when your behavior continues to contradict them.
LARRYI never said I didn’t want our relationship to work.
MARRIAGE COUNSELORThen you need to start demonstrating that through your decisions. You cannot keep asking Bethany to be patient while refusing to make the changes that could actually help both of you.
The room falls silent.
SCENE 7: BETHANY FINALLY SPEAKS HER MIND
Bethany looks at Larry, clearly frustrated that the same discussion is happening once again.
Larry, do you understand how exhausting this has become for me? I keep trying to explain what I need, but you make me feel like I’m asking for something unreasonable.
LARRYThat’s not how I want you to feel.
BETHANYBut that’s exactly how you make me feel! You say you want us to be happy, yet every time there’s an opportunity to do something for our relationship, you bring another problem into the situation.
LARRYI was just trying to include my family. I didn’t think it would create this much tension.
BETHANYAnd that’s the problem. You didn’t think about how I would feel. You didn’t ask what I wanted. You simply made your own decision and expected me to accept it.
MARRIAGE COUNSELORLarry, listen to what Bethany is saying. She’s not asking you to abandon your family. She’s asking you to recognize that your relationship deserves dedicated attention.
BETHANYI want to feel like your partner, not like somebody who has to keep fighting for a little time with you.
