jnd ) One slap changed everything.Brooke thought the argument was over—until Larry found the note upstairs. What he read revealed something far more serious.

THE SLAP
HOOK
The room went completely silent.
For one long second, neither of them moved.
Larry stood frozen, one hand slowly rising toward his cheek. Brooke’s chest was heaving, her eyes burning with anger — and underneath that anger was something neither of them wanted to admit.
Fear.
Not of Larry.
But of what would happen next.
Because Brooke knew she had crossed a line.
And Larry knew that whatever happened after this moment could change their relationship forever.
INT. BROOKE’S BEDROOM — EVENING
The door opens.
Bethany steps inside first, followed by Larry.
Brooke is sitting near her mirror, scrolling through her phone. She looks up, immediately noticing the serious expressions on their faces.
She lowers the phone.
BROOKE
What?
BETHANY
Brooke, you’re eighteen now.
Brooke raises an eyebrow.
BROOKE
Okay…
BETHANY
You’re not a little girl anymore. You’re old enough to understand that the way you dress matters.
BROOKE
What exactly are you trying to say?
THE WARNING
BETHANY
I’m saying you need to be more careful about what you wear. Some of your clothes are too revealing. You shouldn’t be wearing things that show too much of your body.
Brooke’s expression hardens.
BROOKE
Seriously?
BETHANY
I’m saying this because I care about you.
BROOKE
It doesn’t sound like it.
BETHANY
You need to understand that you’re an adult now. With that comes responsibility.
LARRY TAKES OVER
Larry has been silent the entire time.
He finally looks at Bethany.
LARRY
Bethany.
BETHANY
Larry, I was just—
LARRY
Go outside. I’ll talk to my daughter myself.
Bethany looks surprised.
She gives Brooke a concerned look, then slowly walks toward the door.
The door closes.
FATHER AND DAUGHTER
Silence.
Larry turns toward his daughter.
BROOKE
So?
LARRY
You heard what Bethany said.
BROOKE
I heard her.
LARRY
Then you understand what we’re talking about.
BROOKE
No. I understand that everyone suddenly thinks they can tell me what to wear.
THE ARGUMENT
LARRY
Brooke, listen to me.
BROOKE
I’m listening.
LARRY
You’re eighteen now. That means you’re old enough to make your own choices, but it also means you’re old enough to understand consequences.
BROOKE
I know.
LARRY
Then act like you know.
Brooke immediately looks back at him.
BROOKE
What does that mean?
LARRY
It means you need to think before you walk out of this house dressed in something that attracts the wrong kind of attention.
BROOKE PUSHES BACK
BROOKE
There it is.
LARRY
What?
BROOKE
The part where you start blaming me for other people’s behavior.
LARRY
That’s not what I’m saying.
BROOKE
It sounds exactly like what you’re saying.
Larry’s jaw tightens.
LARRY
I’m not trying to control you.
BROOKE
Then stop telling me what I should wear.
THE LINE
LARRY
I’m telling you to have some self-respect.
Brooke freezes.
BROOKE
Excuse me?
Larry realizes the words came out harsher than intended.
BROOKE
You think what I wear says something about my character?
LARRY
That’s not what I said.
BROOKE
That’s exactly what you implied.
NO TURNING BACK
LARRY
Enough.
BROOKE
No. You listen to me for once.
Larry’s expression hardens.
LARRY
Watch your tone.
BROOKE
Who are you to tell me what I can and can’t wear?
Larry is stunned.
BROOKE
I know what’s right for me.
LARRY
You think turning eighteen suddenly makes you know everything?
BROOKE
No. But it means I get to make my own decisions.
THE FINAL ARGUMENT
LARRY
As long as you’re living under my roof, there are certain rules you’re going to follow.
Brooke’s eyes flash.
BROOKE
There it is.
LARRY
What?
BROOKE
The real reason.
LARRY
Then what is it about?
BROOKE
Control.
THE BREAKING POINT
LARRY
Watch your tone.
BROOKE
Or what?
A long silence.
LARRY
Don’t challenge me.
BROOKE
I know what’s right for me. You don’t get to walk into my room and tell me how to live my life.
LARRY
I’m your father!
BROOKE
And I’m not a child anymore!
LARRY
Then stop acting like one!
THE SLAP
The words hit Brooke hard.
Her anger boils over.
Her hand moves before either of them can process what is happening.
SMACK!
The slap echoes through the room.
Silence.
Larry’s face turns slightly with the impact.
Brooke freezes.
Her anger disappears almost instantly.
BROOKE
Dad…
BROOKE
I’m sorry.
AFTER THE SLAP
The door suddenly opens.
Bethany stands there.
BETHANY
What happened?
Neither answers.
BROOKE
I slapped him.
Bethany is speechless.
LARRY
Bethany, give us a minute.
Bethany slowly closes the door again.
WHAT HAPPENS NOW?
BROOKE
I didn’t mean to.
LARRY
But you did.
Brooke nods.
BROOKE
I know.
Larry walks toward the door.
BROOKE
What happens now?
Larry stops.
LARRY
That’s what I’m trying to figure out.
The door slowly closes behind him.
Brooke remains standing in the middle of her room.
Downstairs, Larry walks into the hallway.
Then suddenly—
A loud THUD comes from upstairs.
Larry and Bethany both look toward the staircase.
Brooke’s room is empty.
Her phone is lying on the floor.
The window is slightly open.
And on her desk…
There is a handwritten note.
Larry picks it up.
His face slowly turns pale.
She’s been planning this for weeks.
