SCENE 1 — LARRY MAKES A DECISION
Larry’s living room — Evening. The house is quiet.
LARRY:“Hey, Purnell. What’s going on? You guys doing okay?”
PURNELL:“Yeah, Larry. We’re good. Just trying to figure out a few things right now.”
LARRY:“Listen, I want you and Jade to come over to my place. You don’t have to worry about finding somewhere to stay right now. I have space here.”
PURNELL:“Are you serious? You really don’t mind us coming over?”
LARRY:“Of course not. Just bring your things. We’ll figure everything out when you get here.”
JADE:“Really? He said we could both stay there?”
PURNELL:“That’s exactly what he said.”
SCENE 2 — JADE AND PURNELL GET READY
Jade and Purnell’s place — Later that evening. They pack their belongings into separate bags.
JADE:“I’m glad Larry invited us. At least we won’t have to worry about where we’re going tonight.”
PURNELL:“Yeah. Larry understands the situation. He knows we’re trying to get things together.”
JADE:“I just hope Bethany doesn’t have a problem with us staying there.”
PURNELL:“Let’s not start worrying before anything happens. We’ll get there, talk to Larry, and everything will be fine.”
They pick up their bags and leave, unaware of the confrontation waiting for them.
SCENE 3 — BETHANY OPENS THE DOOR
Larry’s house — Front entrance. Bethany hears a knock and opens the door.
She sees Jade and Purnell standing outside with their luggage. Her expression immediately changes.
BETHANY:“What is this?”
JADE:“Hey, Bethany. How are you?”
BETHANY:“Why are you two standing at my door with all these bags?”
PURNELL:“Larry invited us. He told us we could come and stay here for a while.”
BETHANY:“Larry invited you?”
JADE:“We didn’t think there would be a problem. Larry said it was okay.”
BETHANY:“Don’t stand there acting like you’re already welcome inside my house.”
SCENE 4 — BETHANY LOSES HER TEMPER
Front doorway — Continuous. Bethany’s anger grows as she looks at their bags.
BETHANY:“So now you’re bringing your bags to my house? You really thought you could just show up here and move in?”
JADE:“We’re not trying to disrespect you. Larry invited us.”
BETHANY:“I don’t care what Larry told you!”
PURNELL:“Listen, Bethany. We don’t want any arguments. We can talk about this calmly.”
BETHANY:“Don’t tell me how to talk in my own house!”
JADE:“There’s no reason to treat us this way.”
SCENE 5 — JADE REFUSES TO BE HUMILIATED
Outside Larry’s front entrance. Jade stops smiling and looks directly at Bethany.
JADE:“I didn’t come here to fight with you. Larry invited us, and we came because we trusted what he told us.”
BETHANY:“Well, you trusted the wrong person!”
JADE:“Then call Larry and ask him why he invited us.”
BETHANY:“I don’t need to call anybody. I’m standing right here telling you that you cannot stay in my house!”
PURNELL:“We’re only trying to find somewhere to stay until we figure out our next move.”
BETHANY:“Then figure it out somewhere else!”
SCENE 6 — BETHANY PUSHES THEM OUT
Front doorway — Moments later. Purnell attempts to move one of the bags closer to the entrance.
BETHANY:“Don’t bring that bag inside!”
PURNELL:“Bethany, calm down. We’re not trying to cause trouble.”
BETHANY:“I said get away from my door!”
Bethany gestures forcefully toward the driveway and pushes them back from the entrance.
JADE:“You don’t have to push us around. We can leave.”
BETHANY:“Get your things and get off my property! You are not staying here!”
PURNELL:“You’re making a huge mistake. Larry is the one who invited us.”
BETHANY:“Then go find Larry! But you’re not coming into this house!”
SCENE 7 — JADE AND PURNELL ARE LEFT OUTSIDE
Larry’s driveway — A few minutes later. Jade places her bag on the ground.
JADE:“I cannot believe she actually pushed us out like that.”
PURNELL:“I told you we should have waited until Larry was home.”
JADE:“But Larry invited us! What were we supposed to do? Ignore his invitation?”
PURNELL:“We did what he asked us to do. Bethany clearly has a problem with us being here.”
JADE:“We need to call Larry. He needs to know exactly what happened.”
Purnell pulls out his phone. Jade prepares to make the call.
SCENE 8 — LARRY RETURNS TO A SHOCKING SITUATION
Outside Larry’s house — Later that evening. Larry returns and notices Jade and Purnell standing outside with their bags.
LARRY:“Hold on. What are you two doing out here?”
JADE:“Larry, thank goodness you’re here.”
PURNELL:“Man, we have a serious problem.”
LARRY:“What happened? Why aren’t you inside?”
JADE:“Because Bethany wouldn’t let us in!”
LARRY:“What do you mean she wouldn’t let you in? I told you both to come here.”
BETHANY:“Oh, you’re back.”
LARRY:“Bethany, what happened here?”
BETHANY:“What’s the problem? I simply told them they couldn’t stay here.”
SCENE 9 — LARRY AND BETHANY FACE OFF
Front entrance — Continuous. Larry confronts Bethany.
LARRY:“You cannot invite people to my house and then treat them like they don’t belong here.”
BETHANY:“Your house? Excuse me? I live here too!”
LARRY:“That doesn’t mean you get to embarrass people at the front door.”
JADE:“We didn’t come here to create problems between you two.”
BETHANY:“Don’t act like she’s innocent! You know exactly what kind of woman she is!”
JADE:“Don’t talk about me like that. You don’t even know what we’ve been through.”
LARRY:“Bethany, that’s enough!”
BETHANY:“So now you’re choosing them over me?”
SCENE 10 — A SHOCKING FINAL WARNING
Larry’s living room — Night. Bethany stands near the couch while Larry tries to resolve the argument.
LARRY:“You cannot invite people to my house and then treat them like they don’t belong here.”
BETHANY:“I have nothing else to say. I told you I don’t want them here.”
LARRY:“You’re putting me in a very difficult position.”
BETHANY:“No, Larry. You’re the one who put yourself in this position.”
Outside, Jade and Purnell wait near their bags. Suddenly, Purnell’s phone begins to ring.
JADE:“Who is it?”
PURNELL:“Wait… What? Are you absolutely sure?”
JADE:“Purnell, what’s going on?”
PURNELL:“Jade, there’s something Larry hasn’t told us.”
Before Jade can ask another question, the front door suddenly opens. Larry steps outside, with Bethany standing behind him.
LARRY:“Both of you need to come inside. There’s something we need to discuss before tonight gets any worse.”
JADE:“What is going on, Larry?”
Larry looks at Purnell. Bethany’s expression changes. Nobody says another word.
