SCENE 1: OMINI DISCOVERS DAVE AND AMBER’S ENGAGEMENT PLANS
Omini sat on her couch, staring at her phone. Her mind was racing after hearing that Dave was thinking seriously about getting engaged to Amber.
She wasn’t trying to interfere in their happiness. She wanted to understand what was happening and warn Anthony before the situation became more complicated.
Omini searched for Anthony’s contact and called him.
ANTHONY (ON THE PHONE)Hello, Omini. What’s going on? You sound like something is bothering you.
OMINIAnthony, I need to talk to you about something important. It’s about Dave and Amber.
ANTHONYWhat about Dave and Amber? Did something happen between them?
OMINII heard that Dave is thinking about getting engaged to Amber. I don’t know exactly what his plans are, but I think we need to talk before things go any further.
ANTHONYWait a minute. Dave is actually thinking about proposing to Amber?
OMINIThat’s what I’ve heard. I’m not calling you to spread rumors. I just want to understand what’s happening.
ANTHONYLet’s meet somewhere we can talk privately. I don’t want to discuss something this important over the phone.
OMINIThere’s a restaurant downtown. I’ll meet you there.
Omini ended the call, hoping their conversation would reveal the truth. She had no idea that a simple meeting was about to create a much bigger problem.
SCENE 2: ANTHONY ARRIVES AT THE RESTAURANT
Soft music played as customers enjoyed their meals. Anthony entered the restaurant and spotted Omini sitting near a window.
ANTHONYSorry if I kept you waiting. Traffic was terrible.
OMINIIt’s fine. I haven’t been here that long.
ANTHONYTell me everything you know about Dave and Amber. I want to understand why you’re concerned.
OMINIThe thing that concerns me is how quickly everything seems to be moving. Dave is thinking about taking his relationship with Amber to another level, and I don’t know whether everyone understands what that could mean.
ANTHONYDave is a grown man. If he wants to marry Amber, that’s his decision. But I agree that we should understand the situation before making assumptions.
OMINIExactly. I’m not saying Dave shouldn’t be happy. I’m saying that people need to be honest with each other.
Their conversation continued. Neither of them noticed Denisha entering the restaurant. She had followed Anthony because she wanted to know where he was going.
When Denisha spotted Anthony sitting across from Omini, she stopped in her tracks. From where she stood, their meeting looked suspicious.
SCENE 3: DENISHA MAKES THE WRONG ASSUMPTION
Denisha watched them from a distance. She couldn’t hear their conversation, but she saw Anthony leaning forward while Omini spoke.
Her mind filled in the missing details with her own assumptions.
Why is Anthony meeting Omini without telling me? What are they discussing so privately?
Across the room, Omini continued explaining her concerns about Dave and Amber.
OMINIAll I’m saying is that if Dave is planning to propose to Amber, everyone needs to understand where things stand.
ANTHONYI agree. I’ll talk to Dave and see what he’s actually planning.
Denisha suddenly walked toward their table. Anthony noticed her approaching and looked surprised.
DENISHASo this is what you’ve been doing?
ANTHONYDenisha? What are you doing here?
DENISHADon’t ask me what I’m doing here. I should be asking you that question!
ANTHONYCan you please lower your voice? We’re in a restaurant.
DENISHAOh, now you care about people hearing us? Maybe you should have thought about that before meeting her behind my back!
Omini sat in confusion, unable to understand why Denisha had approached her with such hostility.
SCENE 4: OMINI TRIES TO EXPLAIN THE TRUTH
Denisha, listen to me. Omini called me because she wanted to discuss something important about Dave and Amber. That’s the only reason we’re here.
DENISHAOf course. There’s always an explanation, isn’t there?
OMINIDenisha, please. I didn’t invite Anthony here for anything personal. I contacted him because I wanted to talk about Dave’s possible engagement plans.
DENISHAThen why didn’t you find someone else to talk to?
OMINIBecause Anthony is someone I wanted to speak with about the situation. That doesn’t mean there’s anything happening between us.
ANTHONYI’m defending the truth. There’s a difference.
Omini slowly rose from her chair. She had never expected a simple conversation to turn into an accusation.
OMINIYou don’t know what you think you saw. You’re making a serious mistake.

The restaurant grew quiet around their table. Denisha had already reached a conclusion and seemed unwilling to change her mind.
SCENE 5: THE WATER GLASS
Denisha looked down at the table. A glass filled with water stood beside Omini’s plate.
ANTHONYDenisha, what are you doing?
Before anyone could react, Denisha grabbed the glass and threw the water toward Omini. Water splashed across Omini’s clothes and face.
For a moment, nobody spoke. Anthony stared at Denisha in disbelief.
ANTHONYHave you lost your mind? Why would you do that?
DENISHAMaybe now she’ll understand that she can’t just sit here with you and act like nothing is wrong!
Omini wiped the water from her face. Her expression changed from confusion to hurt and anger.
OMINIWhat is wrong with you, Denisha? I have been trying to explain everything to you!
DENISHAI don’t want to hear your explanations!
Denisha grabbed the water jug and swung it toward Omini. Anthony quickly stepped forward to stop her. The jug struck the edge of the table, spilling water across the tablecloth and floor.
Several customers stood up. A waiter hurried toward them.
WAITERMa’am, please calm down! You cannot behave like this in our restaurant.
OMINIYou came here, made your own assumptions, and attacked me without hearing a single complete sentence!
ANTHONYYou need to stop. You’re making everything worse.
Omini stepped away from the table, shaken by what had happened. She had come to have an ordinary conversation, but now she was standing in front of a crowd, humiliated over something she had not done.
SCENE 6: OMINI REFUSES TO ACCEPT THE HUMILIATION
A restaurant employee brought napkins for Omini. Anthony stood beside her, visibly upset.
ANTHONYOmini, I’m sorry. I never expected this to happen.
OMINIYou didn’t throw the water, Anthony. But I will not stand here and let somebody treat me like I’m guilty of something when she doesn’t even know the truth.
DENISHAThen tell me the truth! What were you really talking about?
OMINIWe were discussing Dave and Amber. I wanted to know more about Dave’s possible engagement plans.
DENISHAAnd I’m supposed to believe you?
OMINIYou can believe whatever you want. But you don’t have the right to attack me because you refuse to hear what I’m saying.
ANTHONYYou owe her an apology.
DENISHAYou’re asking me to apologize to her after I caught you two sitting together?
