nd ) Amber’s Engagement Dream Turns Into a Secret She Never Expected

The Ring That Never Came

THE RING THAT NEVER CAME

THE HOOK

Amber thought Dave was simply asking for more time. But when she discovered the documents hidden in his office, she realized the engagement ring was never the real problem. The truth waiting inside those papers could change everything.

SCENE ONE — THE MOMENT THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

The room was filled with applause, laughter, and happy voices.

But Amber heard none of it.

Her eyes were fixed on one thing.

The ring.

Two days earlier, Anthony had stood in front of everyone and asked D’Nisha to marry him. D’Nisha had covered her mouth in shock before finally saying yes.

Anthony smiled, took her hand, and slowly slipped the ring onto her finger.

Everyone celebrated.

Everyone except Amber.

She stood beside Dave, forcing a smile while something inside her quietly broke.

Amber watched D’Nisha stare at the ring.

Then she looked down at Dave.

For a second, she imagined that same ring on her own finger.

She imagined Dave standing in front of everyone.

She imagined him saying her name.

She imagined a future where she no longer had to wonder whether Dave was truly committed to her.

But that future suddenly felt farther away than ever.

DAVEAre you okay?
AMBERYeah. I’m fine.

Dave nodded, believing her.

But Amber wasn’t fine.

Not anymore.

As everyone continued celebrating Anthony and D’Nisha, Amber made a quiet decision.

She was going to ask Dave for the future she wanted — and she wasn’t going to accept another vague answer.

SCENE TWO — AMBER ASKS THE QUESTION

Later that evening, the house became quiet.

Most of the guests had left, and the excitement surrounding Anthony and D’Nisha had finally settled down.

Amber found Dave alone.

He was standing near the window, looking outside.

She walked toward him slowly.

AMBERDave.
DAVEWhat’s wrong?

Amber took a breath.

She had replayed the conversation in her head several times.

Now there was no turning back.

AMBERI want us to get engaged too.

Dave didn’t respond immediately.

His expression changed.

Not anger.

Not happiness.

Something else.

Something Amber couldn’t understand.

AMBERYou heard me.
DAVEI heard you.
AMBERThen say something.
DAVEAmber, I will marry you.

Amber’s eyes softened.

For one second, she thought she had finally gotten the answer she wanted.

DAVEI just need some more time.

The smile disappeared from Amber’s face.

AMBERMore time?
DAVEYes.
AMBERHow much more time?

Dave didn’t answer.

Amber stared at him.

AMBERYou’ve been asking for time for months.
DAVEI know.
AMBERSo what’s different now?

Silence.

That silence hurt more than an argument would have.

AMBERMore time for what, Dave?
DAVEI don’t know how to explain it right now.
AMBERThen maybe I already know what you’re not telling me.
DAVEWhat does that mean?
AMBERNothing.

She walked away before he could stop her.

But inside her mind, one name had already appeared.

EMINI.

SCENE THREE — THE NAME AMBER COULDN’T IGNORE

Emini had always been around Dave.

She was his assistant.

At least, that was what everyone knew.

But lately, Amber had started noticing things she couldn’t explain.

Emini always seemed to know where Dave was.

She handled his calls.

She organized his meetings.

She sometimes stayed late when everyone else had gone home.

And whenever Amber entered a room, Emini’s conversations with Dave seemed to end.

Maybe it meant nothing.

Maybe Amber was simply overthinking everything.

But after Dave’s answer that night, every little detail suddenly felt important.

The next morning, Amber sat quietly at the kitchen table.

Dave walked in.

DAVEMorning.
AMBERMorning.

Dave poured himself some coffee.

Amber watched him carefully.

AMBERAre you meeting Emini today?

Dave paused.

Only for a second.

But Amber noticed.

DAVEYes. I have some work to finish.
AMBERAt the office?
DAVEMostly.
AMBEROkay.
DAVEWhy?
AMBERNo reason.

Dave walked away.

Amber waited until he disappeared.

Then her expression changed.

She wasn’t going to accuse him. Not yet. She needed proof.

If something was happening between Dave and Emini, Amber wanted to discover it herself.

SCENE FOUR — THE FIRST CLUE

That afternoon, Amber found herself alone in the house.

Dave had left earlier.

She wasn’t planning to search through his things.

At least, that’s what she told herself.

She walked past his office and stopped.

The door was slightly open.

Amber looked inside.

Everything seemed normal.

His laptop was closed.

Documents were stacked neatly on the desk.

A coffee cup sat beside a folder.

Then Amber noticed something.

A small envelope was lying underneath a notebook.

She stepped closer.

There was no name on the front.

Amber hesitated.

Her heart began beating faster.

She picked it up.

Before opening it, she heard footsteps outside.

Amber quickly placed it back.

She turned around.

No one was there.

She waited.

Silence.

Amber slowly looked back at the desk.

Something about that envelope bothered
