Anthony’s Warning Could Destroy Everything
A Fight About Marriage
INT. LIVING ROOM — EVENING
The atmosphere is tense. Dave stands near the window, his jaw clenched and his hands tightly folded. Anthony faces him, determined to make him understand something he clearly does not want to hear.
Neither man is willing to back down. What begins as a conversation about marriage quickly turns into a heated argument.
ANTHONYDave, how long are you planning to keep avoiding this conversation? Everyone knows Amber wants to marry you. She is waiting for you to take the next step, but you keep putting it off.
DAVEThat is between Amber and me. You have no right to interfere in my personal life.
ANTHONYI am not interfering. I am telling you what you need to hear. If you truly love Amber, why are you making her wait without giving her a clear answer?
DAVEYou think you understand everything about my relationship, but you do not. Marriage is a serious decision. I am not going to make a promise just because someone keeps asking me to make one.
Anthony shakes his head in frustration.
ANTHONYAnd what exactly are you waiting for? You cannot keep someone emotionally attached to you forever without telling her where she stands.
DAVEWatch your words, Anthony. You are talking about my relationship as if you know what happens between us every day.
ANTHONYMaybe I know more than you think.
Dave turns sharply toward him.
DAVEWhat is that supposed to mean?
Anthony pauses. For a moment, it seems as though he is about to reveal something, but he changes his mind.
ANTHONYIt means that you should stop pretending this situation will solve itself. Amber deserves an answer.
DAVEAnd I deserve the time to make my own decision. I will not be pressured by you, Amber, or anybody else.
Dave grabs his jacket from the sofa.
ANTHONYWalking away will not solve anything.
DAVENeither will standing here listening to you tell me how to live my life.
Dave walks toward the exit. Before leaving, he looks back at Anthony with visible irritation.
DAVEStay out of my business. I mean it.
Dave leaves, shutting the door firmly behind him.
Anthony remains in the living room, staring at the closed door. The argument has ended, but the tension has not disappeared.
Instead, a new thought begins to form in his mind.
He glances toward the hallway that leads to Amber’s bedroom.
If Dave refuses to listen, perhaps Amber needs to hear the truth before she makes a mistake that she cannot undo.
Anthony takes a breath and quietly walks down the hallway.
He has no intention of telling Dave about this visit.
Not yet.
Anthony’s Secret Warning
INT. AMBER’S BEDROOM — EVENING
Amber sits on the edge of her bed, looking through her phone. She appears calm, but there is a trace of frustration on her face.
She has been thinking about Dave and the future they are supposed to build together. She wants a marriage proposal, a commitment, and reassurance that he is as serious about their relationship as she is.
A soft knock interrupts her thoughts.
Amber looks toward the door.
AMBERWho is it?
ANTHONY (O.S.)It is Anthony. Can I come in?
Amber looks surprised. She hesitates before answering.
AMBERWhat do you want? I thought you were talking to Dave.
ANTHONY (O.S.)I was. But I need to speak with you privately.
Amber gets up and opens the door. Anthony steps inside, glancing briefly down the hallway to make sure nobody is watching.
Amber notices his unusual behavior.
AMBERWhy are you looking around like that? Is something wrong?
ANTHONYWe need to talk about Dave.
Amber immediately becomes defensive.
AMBERIf you have come here to criticize him, you can leave right now. I do not want to hear another argument about my relationship.
ANTHONYThat is exactly why I came. You need to listen to me before this situation gets worse.
Amber crosses her arms.
AMBERThen speak. I do not have all evening.
Anthony takes a few steps into the room and lowers his voice.
ANTHONYStop pressuring Dave about marriage.
Amber stares at him, unable to believe what she has just heard.
AMBERExcuse me?
ANTHONYYou heard me. Stop asking him for a proposal. Stop bringing up marriage every time you two have a conversation. Give him some space to make the decision himself.
Amber lets out a short, disbelieving laugh.
AMBERAnd who appointed you to give me relationship advice?
ANTHONYNobody. But after speaking to Dave, I can see that this situation is becoming a serious problem.
AMBERWhat did he say to you?
Anthony pauses before answering.
ANTHONYHe made it clear that he does not want to be pressured into marriage. He believes that a decision like that should come naturally, not because someone keeps demanding it.
Amber turns away, visibly annoyed.
AMBEROf course he said that. He always has an excuse whenever I ask him about our future.
ANTHONYThen perhaps you should pay attention to what he is telling you.
Amber turns back toward him.
AMBERYou do not understand our relationship. Dave loves me. He has told me that himself, and I have no reason to doubt him.
ANTHONYLove and marriage are not always the same thing, Amber. Someone can care about you and still feel overwhelmed when you constantly demand a decision.
AMBERI am not constantly demanding anything! I am asking for the future he promised me.
Anthony’s expression softens slightly, but his tone remains serious.
ANTHONYThen give him a chance to choose that future without feeling trapped. If you keep insisting on a proposal, he might get fed up with the pressure and decide to walk away.
The words strike Amber like an insult.
For several seconds, she says nothing. Her eyes narrow, and her hands curl into fists.
AMBERWalk away?
Anthony remains silent.
AMBERYou honestly think Dave is going to leave me because I want to marry him?
ANTHONYI am telling you what could happen if this continues. I am not saying that he has already made that decision.
AMBERBut you are trying to make me believe that he might!
Amber steps closer, her anger growing.
AMBERWhy are you giving me this advice? Dave loves me so much! He would never leave me!
Anthony looks at her carefully.
ANTHONYI hope you are right.
AMBERYou should hope so, because you clearly do not know him as well as you think you do.
ANTHONYAmber, I am not your enemy. I came here because I thought you needed to understand what is happening before things get out of control.
AMBERNo. You came here to put doubts in my mind. First, you argue with Dave, and now you come into my bedroom to tell me he might abandon me. What are you really trying to accomplish?
Anthony’s expression changes.
For the first time since entering the room, he seems uncertain about what to say.
ANTHONYThere are things about this situation that you do not understand.
AMBERThen explain them.
Anthony opens his mouth, but the words do not come.
He looks toward the door, then back at Amber.
ANTHONYI cannot explain everything right now. Just promise me you will think carefully before bringing up marriage with Dave again.
Amber shakes her head in disbelief.
AMBERI will decide what I want to say to my boyfriend. You do not get to control my relationship.
Anthony exhales slowly.
ANTHONYFine. But remember this conversation when things start changing between you and Dave.
Amber looks at him angrily.
AMBERGet out of my room.
Anthony does not move immediately. He seems as though he wants to say one more thing, something more important than his warning about marriage.
Then, suddenly—
KNOCK! KNOCK!
Both of them freeze.
Amber’s anger disappears for a moment as she turns toward the door.
A new voice comes from the other side.
DAVE (O.S.)Amber? Are you in there?
Amber’s eyes widen.
Anthony goes completely still.
The timing could not be worse.
Dave Finds Anthony
INT. AMBER’S BEDROOM — CONTINUOUS
Amber looks at Anthony, who is now standing near the middle of the room. Neither of them speaks.
Dave knocks again.
DAVE (O.S.)Amber, open the door. I know you are in there.
Amber quickly composes herself. She does not want Dave to notice that anything unusual has happened.
She walks to the door and opens it.
Dave steps inside, expecting to find Amber alone.
Instead, his eyes immediately land on Anthony.
His expression changes.
First comes surprise. Then confusion. Finally, suspicion settles across his face.
DAVEAnthony? What are you doing here?
Anthony tries to remain calm.
ANTHONYI came to talk to Amber.
Dave looks from Anthony to Amber.
DAVEYou came to talk to Amber? In her bedroom? After the argument we just had
