1. Larry Talks to Rob About Brooke

Outside the house, Larry stood beside his longtime gym friend Rob. The evening was quiet, but Larry’s expression made it clear that his mind was somewhere else. His arms were crossed as he stared toward the driveway, thinking about everything happening with Brooke.

Rob knew Larry well enough to recognize when something was bothering him. Instead of talking about the gym or everyday problems, Rob asked about Brooke and her decision to travel to Philadelphia.

Larry took a slow breath before answering. He admitted that he did not like the idea. He especially did not like the boy Brooke wanted to see. Larry’s feelings toward Isaiah had become increasingly complicated. He believed Brooke was still emotionally attached to someone who had already caused enough problems.

But Larry also understood something important. Brooke was now eighteen. She was no longer a little girl waiting for every decision to be made for her.

Rob nodded slowly. Larry’s voice carried frustration, but there was also a sense that he knew he could not control every choice Brooke made anymore.

2. Larry Admits How Angry He Really Is

Rob leaned against the side of the house and asked Larry what he planned to do if Brooke actually went to Philadelphia.

Larry looked down for a moment. He was clearly unhappy about the situation. He did not trust Isaiah, and the history between Brooke and Isaiah made Larry nervous.

Still, Larry knew that confronting Brooke every time she made a decision could push her even further away.

Rob understood what Larry was saying. The conversation had become less about Isaiah and more about Larry accepting that Brooke was entering adulthood.

For a few seconds, neither man spoke. The atmosphere became quieter. Then Rob suddenly thought of something completely different.

He looked at Larry and realized that Brooke being away from the house could give Larry some uninterrupted time to deal with another major problem.

3. Rob Mentions the Divorce Papers

Rob changed the subject without realizing how dangerous his next words would become.

Larry immediately became thoughtful.

The word “divorce” had been hanging over his relationship with Bethany for some time. There had been arguments, emotional conversations, family pressure, and moments when Larry wondered whether their marriage could actually survive.

But Larry did not want to make a reckless decision.

Rob nodded, but he continued discussing the possibility. Larry listened quietly, trying to organize his thoughts.

Neither man noticed the movement near the house.

Bethany had come close enough to hear them.

At first, she stood silently.

Then she heard one phrase clearly.

4. Bethany’s Entire Mood Changes

Bethany’s expression changed instantly.

Moments earlier, she had been moving around the house normally. Now she stood frozen, staring toward Larry and Rob.

She could not believe what she had just heard.

Larry had not told her that divorce papers were being discussed. Rob had casually mentioned them as though the subject were already part of Larry’s plans.

Bethany’s emotions quickly turned into anger.

She looked around and spotted a pool cue nearby.

Without thinking through the consequences, she grabbed it with both hands and rushed toward Rob.

Rob turned around and immediately realized something was wrong. His eyes widened when he saw Bethany approaching with the pool cue.

He quickly stepped backward, raising his arms defensively.

But Bethany was furious.

5. Rob Tries to Protect Himself

Rob continued moving backward as Bethany attempted to swing the cue toward him. He was completely caught off guard by how quickly the conversation had turned into chaos.

Rob tried to keep distance between himself and Bethany while repeatedly telling her to calm down.

Bethany did not seem ready to listen.

Her anger was no longer only about Rob. She was suddenly questioning everything Larry had been saying and doing.

Had Larry already made up his mind?

Was Brooke’s trip really connected to Larry’s divorce plans?

Was Larry secretly preparing to end their marriage while everyone else was distracted?

These questions raced through Bethany’s mind.

Meanwhile, Larry stood behind them in complete shock.

Larry had expected an emotional conversation about Brooke. He had never expected to watch Bethany suddenly charge toward Rob.

He stared at Bethany, stunned by what had just happened.

Bethany turned toward Larry for a moment.

Her face showed anger, confusion, and fear all at once.

Larry tried to explain that Rob had brought up the subject and that he had specifically said he did not want to rush the process.

But Bethany was not interested in hearing half-explanations.

She wanted to know exactly what Larry had been planning.

Rob slowly moved farther away, realizing that this was no longer an argument he could safely stand in the middle of.

Larry looked from Rob to Bethany.

For the first time, he realized that his private thoughts about divorce were no longer private.

7. The Question Larry Wasn’t Ready For

The yard suddenly became silent.

Bethany still held the pool cue, but her attention was now completely focused on Larry.

Rob stood several feet away, watching carefully.

Larry knew there was no easy way out of the conversation now.

Bethany stepped closer and demanded the truth.

Larry did not answer immediately.

That silence said more than either man expected.

Bethany’s expression changed again. Her anger was beginning to mix with disbelief.

Rob looked at Larry, waiting for him to respond.

Larry finally opened his mouth, but before he could finish his answer, Bethany suddenly noticed something else near the doorway.

It was a folder.

A folder Larry had been keeping inside the house.

Bethany stared at it.

Then she looked back at Larry.

“Is that the paperwork?” she asked quietly.

Larry’s face went completely serious.

Rob stopped moving.

Bethany slowly walked toward the folder, still holding the pool cue. Whatever was inside could finally reveal whether Larry had only been discussing divorce—or whether he had already taken the first real step toward ending their marriage.
