THE BETRAYAL THAT DESTROYED EVERYTHING

Genre: Romantic Drama, Betrayal, Suspense

SCENE 1: THE LIE THAT WAS ABOUT TO COLLAPSE

Some betrayals destroy a relationship. Others destroy every person caught in the lie.

Isaiah believed he was clever enough to keep two women in love with him without either discovering the truth. He had promised Mariah a future together, while secretly telling Brooke that she was the only woman he wanted to marry.

But that evening, one unexpected arrival would expose everything he had worked so hard to hide.

And the worst part?

Neither Mariah nor Brooke knew that Isaiah had a third secret waiting to come to light.

Inside Mariah’s Living Room

Inside Mariah’s living room, Isaiah sat beside her on the couch. His arm rested comfortably around her shoulders as they discussed their plans for the weekend.

Mariah smiled as she showed him a picture of a beautiful restaurant on her phone.

Mariah

“I thought we could have dinner here on Saturday. Just the two of us. No distractions, no phones, and no excuses.”

Isaiah

“That sounds perfect. You know I’d do anything to make you happy.”

Mariah leaned against him, believing every word.

Mariah

“Sometimes I wonder how I got so lucky to find someone like you.”

For a brief moment, Isaiah looked uncomfortable. He knew exactly how undeserving he was of her trust. But instead of telling the truth, he reached for her hand.

Isaiah

“You don’t have to wonder. I’m right here, and I’m not going anywhere.”

Just then, someone knocked on the front door.

Mariah looked toward the entrance.

Mariah

“Are you expecting someone?”

Isaiah immediately stiffened. He recognized the timing of that knock.

Before he could answer, Mariah stood and walked toward the door.

And when she opened it, Isaiah’s carefully constructed world began to fall apart.

Brooke stood outside.

Her expression changed the instant she saw Isaiah sitting on the couch behind Mariah.

Brooke

“Isaiah?”

Isaiah stood so quickly that a cushion fell to the floor.

Isaiah

“Brooke! What are you doing here?”

Brooke stared at him, then at Mariah.

Brooke

“I should be asking you that question. Why are you sitting in another woman’s house like you belong here?”

Mariah turned toward Isaiah.

Mariah

“Another woman? Excuse me, but who exactly are you?”

Brooke stepped inside, unable to hide her anger.

Brooke

“I’m Brooke. Isaiah’s girlfriend.”

“Your girlfriend?”

Silence filled the room. Mariah slowly turned her head toward Isaiah.

Isaiah opened his mouth, but nothing came out.

Mariah’s expression hardened.

Mariah

“Isaiah, tell me she’s lying.”

He looked at Mariah, then at Brooke. For the first time, neither of his usual excuses seemed convincing enough.

SCENE 2: TWO WOMEN, ONE TERRIBLE TRUTH

Brooke folded her arms, waiting for Isaiah to explain himself.

Brooke

“Well? Why aren’t you saying anything? You told me you were working late whenever you disappeared. You said your phone died whenever you stopped answering my calls.”

She pointed toward Mariah.

Brooke

“And now I find you sitting here with her?”

Mariah

“Hold on. Isaiah told me he was single when we met. He said his last relationship ended months before he met me.”

Brooke

“Months? We’ve been together for almost a year!”

Mariah stepped backward as the truth sank in. She remembered every late-night phone call, every romantic message, and every promise Isaiah had made.

Mariah

“He told me I was the first woman he’d ever seriously considered marrying.”

Brooke

“He told me he wanted me to be his wife!”

Mariah stared at her.

Mariah

“He gave me a promise ring three weeks ago.”

Brooke reached into her purse and pulled out a small velvet box. Inside was a similar ring.

Brooke

“He gave me mine two months ago.”

Mariah looked from the ring to Isaiah. Her disappointment quickly turned into fury.

Mariah

“You actually planned this? You gave us both the same promises and expected us never to find out?”

Isaiah

“Please, both of you. You’re misunderstanding the situation.”

Brooke

“Then explain it!”

Isaiah

“My relationship with Brooke was complicated before I met Mariah. We weren’t exactly together anymore.”

Brooke stared at him as though she could not believe what she was hearing.

Brooke

“That’s a lie! You called me last night and told me you couldn’t wait to see me.”

Mariah

“And you called me this morning to say you missed me.”

Isaiah

“I made mistakes. I know that. But I never intended for things to become this complicated.”

Brooke

“You didn’t accidentally lie to us. You made a choice every single day!”

Her words struck harder than any excuse he could offer.

Mariah wiped away a tear.

Mariah

“I trusted you with things I’ve never told anyone else. I defended you when my friends questioned your behavior. I thought they were wrong about you.”

She looked directly into his eyes.

Mariah

“But they were right, weren’t they?”

Isaiah lowered his gaze. He had no answer that could repair the damage.

SCENE 3: THE MAN WHO HAD NO EXCUSES

The atmosphere in the living room became unbearable. Brooke paced back and forth while Mariah stood near the doorway, trying to process what had happened.

Isaiah

“Mariah, please. What we had was real.”

Mariah immediately stepped away from him.

Mariah

“Don’t you dare tell me what we had was real. You built our entire relationship on a lie.”

Isaiah

“And Brooke, you know how much you mean to me.”

Brooke

“If I meant anything to you, you wouldn’t have needed another girlfriend.”

Isaiah

“I never wanted to hurt either of you.”

Brooke

“Then why did you keep doing the things that would hurt us?”

Isaiah remained silent.

Mariah picked up a framed photograph from the coffee table. It showed her and Isaiah smiling together at a birthday celebration. She stared at it for a moment before setting it facedown.

Mariah

“How many times did you look me in the eyes and lie?”

Isaiah

“I don’t know.”

Mariah

“That is the most honest thing you’ve said all evening.”

Brooke moved toward the front door and opened it.

Brooke

“Leave.”

Isaiah

“Brooke, please let me finish.”

Brooke

“No. You’ve had months to explain yourself, and you used every opportunity to lie instead.”

When Isaiah tried to pass her, Brooke shoved his shoulder away from her path, and he stumbled backward onto the couch. Mariah immediately stepped between them.

Mariah

“Enough! You don’t get to turn this into another argument about us. This is about what you did.”

Isaiah stood up, straightened his shirt, and looked at both women.

Isaiah

“So that’s it? You’re both just going to throw away everything we had?”

Brooke

“You threw it away long before we walked into this room.”

Mariah opened the door wider.

Mariah

“Get out, Isaiah.”

For several seconds, he stood motionless. Then he picked up his jacket and walked outside.

Neither woman followed him. The door closed behind him.

And for the first time that evening, both women were finally able to breathe.

But the truth was not finished revealing itself.

SCENE 4: THE MESSAGE THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

Mariah returned to the living room and sat down heavily. Brooke remained standing near the door. For a while, neither woman spoke.

They had entered the room as strangers who believed they were loved by the same man in completely different ways. Now they were united by the same betrayal.

Mariah

“Did he ever tell you about me?”

Brooke

“Never. He told me he was busy with work, visiting relatives, or helping a friend. I believed him because I wanted to believe him.”

Mariah

“He always had a reason he couldn’t stay overnight. He said he needed space because his job was stressful.”

Brooke

“How long have you been dating him?”

Mariah: “Seven months.”

Brooke: “Nine months for me.”

Mariah looked at her in disbelief.

Mariah

“Nine months? So he was dating both of us almost the entire time.”

Brooke: “Apparently.”

Mariah leaned forward and covered her face with her hands.

Mariah

“I feel so stupid.”

Brooke

“Don’t say that. We trusted someone who deliberately deceived us. That doesn’t make us stupid.”

Mariah looked at her.

Mariah

“You’re right. But I wish I’d seen the signs.”

Brooke

“Maybe there were signs. Maybe we both noticed things that didn’t make sense and convinced ourselves there was an explanation.”

Mariah nodded. Then something caught her attention.

Isaiah’s phone was still lying on the coffee table. He had apparently left it behind when he rushed out.

The screen illuminated with a new notification.

Mariah glanced at it. Then her expression changed.

Mariah

“Brooke, come here.”

Brooke leaned over her shoulder. The message came from an unknown number.

“Isaiah, did you tell them about the third girl yet?”

Brooke slowly straightened.

Brooke

“Third girl?”

Mariah picked up the phone.

Mariah

“Whoever sent this knows about his relationships.”

Brooke stared at the message, her anger replaced by a deeper uneasiness.

Brooke

“What if there really is someone else?”

Mariah unlocked the phone, hoping to find an explanation. But before she could open the messages, the device began ringing.

The incoming call was from the same unknown number.

Both women stared at the screen.

Then Mariah answered.

Mariah: “Hello?”

For a moment, there was only silence. Then a woman’s voice came through.

UNKNOWN WOMAN

“Is Isaiah there?”

Mariah exchanged a look with Brooke.

Mariah

“No. Who is this?”

The caller hesitated.

UNKNOWN WOMAN

“Who are you?”

Mariah’s voice became firm.

Mariah

“I’m one of the women Isaiah has been lying to. If you know something, now is the time to tell us.”

A sharp breath came through the phone.

UNKNOWN WOMAN

“Oh, my God. He actually got caught.”

Brooke moved closer.

Brooke

“Who are you? And what do you mean by the third girl?”

The woman fell silent again. Then she said something neither of them expected.

UNKNOWN WOMAN

“I’m not the third girl.”

Mariah: “What?”

UNKNOWN WOMAN

“I’m the woman who knows why he’s been dating all of you.”

Before either woman could ask another question, the caller disconnected.

Mariah slowly lowered the phone.

Brooke

“What does that even mean?”

Mariah stared at the screen.

Mariah
