The Poolside Moment Larry Was Never Supposed To See
THE POOLSIDE MOMENT LARRY WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO SEE
THE MOMENT THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

The moment Larry saw Bethany with Purnell beside the pool, he stopped walking.

For several seconds, he couldn’t move.

From where he stood, he couldn’t hear their conversation. He couldn’t see what had happened before he arrived.

He only saw Bethany in the pool.

Purnell sitting close by.

And the distance between what Larry believed about his marriage and what he was seeing in front of him suddenly became impossible to ignore.

LARRY’S FACE HARDENED.
LARRY
“What am I looking at?”

Bethany had no idea he was there.

And that was the most dangerous part.

Because Larry was already carrying doubts.

And now, without knowing the truth, he was about to make a decision that could change everything between them.

THE QUIET AFTERNOON

The afternoon had started peacefully.

Bethany had come to the pool hoping to escape the tension that had followed her and Larry throughout their trip.

For once, she wanted silence.

No arguments.

No explanations.

No questions about their marriage.

Just a few quiet minutes to herself.

She leaned back in the pool and closed her eyes.

The sunlight reflected across the water.

For the first time that day, Bethany felt like she could breathe.

Then she heard footsteps.

She opened her eyes.

Purnell was approaching the pool area.

BETHANY
“Purnell… please don’t start.”
PURNELL
“Start what? I’m just sitting here.”

Bethany gave him a tired look.

BETHANY
“I came here to relax.”
PURNELL
“So relax.”

Bethany turned away.

She tried to ignore him.

But Purnell continued joking and teasing her.

At first, Bethany tried to laugh it off.

Then his comments started becoming irritating.

BETHANY
“Purnell, seriously. Can you leave me alone?”
PURNELL
“Okay, okay. Why are you so serious?”
BETHANY
“Because I told you I want to be alone.”
PURNELL
“We’re on a trip, Bethany. I’m just enjoying myself.”

Bethany’s expression became more serious.

BETHANY
“I’m not enjoying this.”

Purnell stopped smiling for a moment.

But instead of leaving, he remained seated.

Bethany shook her head.

She already knew this could become another problem.

And she had no idea Larry was getting closer.

LARRY’S RETURN

Larry was walking back toward the pool.

He had stepped away earlier because he needed some time alone.

His relationship with Bethany had been weighing heavily on him.

They had been fighting too often.

Trust had become difficult.

Even simple conversations seemed to carry hidden meaning.

Larry had spent most of the trip trying to convince himself that things could still be repaired.

But deep inside, he wasn’t sure anymore.

As he approached the pool area, he slowed down.

Something caught his attention.

He looked through the opening between the trees.

THEN HE SAW THEM.

Bethany.

Purnell.

Together.

Larry stopped.

His expression changed immediately.

He couldn’t hear them.

He couldn’t understand what they were saying.

He only saw Purnell sitting near Bethany while she was in the pool.

Larry stared.

His mind began filling in the silence.

Why was Purnell there?

Why was Bethany alone with him?

How long had they been talking?

And why hadn’t Bethany told him?

Larry’s jaw tightened.

He took another step forward.

Then stopped again.

He didn’t want to believe what his eyes were showing him.

But the longer he watched, the worse his thoughts became.

BETHANY DOESN’T KNOW

Bethany was still trying to end the conversation.

BETHANY
“Purnell, I’m telling you one more time. Please go somewhere else.”
PURNELL
“Why are you acting like I’ve done something terrible?”
BETHANY
“Because you’re not listening.”
PURNELL
“Fine. I was just trying to have a little fun.”

Bethany turned away.

BETHANY
“This isn’t funny to me.”

She took a slow breath.

BETHANY
“Larry and I already have enough problems.”
PURNELL
“You two are always fighting.”
BETHANY
“That’s exactly why I don’t need another problem.”

She didn’t notice Larry.

But then something changed.

She looked toward the walkway.

Her eyes widened.

Her face went completely still.

Larry was standing there.

Watching them.

BETHANY
“Larry…”

Purnell turned.

His smile disappeared.

THE SILENCE

Larry slowly walked toward the pool.

His face revealed almost nothing.

That was what frightened Bethany most.

She knew Larry.

She knew when he was angry.

But this wasn’t ordinary anger.

This was disappointment.

Confusion.

And something much deeper.

BETHANY
“Larry, wait.”

Larry stopped.

He looked at her.

Then at Purnell.

LARRY
“I didn’t know I was interrupting something.”
BETHANY
“You weren’t.”
LARRY
“That’s not what it looked like.”
BETHANY
“Because you didn’t hear the conversation.”

Larry remained silent.

PURNELL
“Larry, nothing happened.”
LARRY
“Then why are you here?”
PURNELL
“I was just talking to Bethany.”
LARRY
“Talking?”
PURNELL
“Yes.”
BETHANY
“He was bothering me.”
LARRY
“Bothering you?”
BETHANY
“I told him to leave several times.”
LARRY
“Did she?”
PURNELL
“She told me to go.”
LARRY
“Then why didn’t you?”

Purnell had no immediate answer.

Bethany closed her eyes for a moment.

She knew exactly how bad this looked.

NOT EVERYTHING IS WHAT IT SEEMS

Bethany climbed out of the pool.

She stood a short distance from Larry.

BETHANY
“Larry, please listen to me.”
LARRY
“I’m listening.”
BETHANY
“You saw us together, but you didn’t see what happened.”
LARRY
