Amber never expected a simple afternoon to turn into a confrontation she couldn’t control.

She kept looking at Anthony.

“You really think that was a good way to spend your money?”

“Why wouldn’t it be?”

“Because you wasted it!” Amber snapped.

“Wasted it?”

“Yes,” Amber replied. “You could’ve invested that money somewhere else. You could’ve done something that actually benefits you.”

Anthony folded his arms.

“So now you’re worried about my money?”

“I’m just saying you could’ve made a smarter decision.”

Anthony stared at her.

“I know that.”

“Then what’s the problem?”

“The problem is that you spent all that money on her!”

D’Nisha stepped forward.

“Why does that bother you so much?”

Amber looked directly at her.

“It doesn’t.”

D’Nisha raised an eyebrow.

“It sure looks like it does.”

“Amber, this has nothing to do with you.”

That sentence hit her harder than she expected.

“What do you mean it has nothing to do with me?”

Anthony replied calmly,

“I’m allowed to make my own decisions.”

“And I’m not allowed to question them?”

“No.”

Amber stared at him.

“After everything we’ve been through?”

Anthony sighed.

“Amber, we’re not together anymore.”

“I know we’re not together!”

“Then act like it.”

Amber’s face changed.

The words clearly hurt.

But instead of walking away, she stepped closer.

“You know what? Maybe I wouldn’t care if you weren’t making such ridiculous decisions.”

Anthony shook his head.

“No. You’re jealous.”

Amber immediately denied it.

“Jealous? Of her?”

D’Nisha looked at Amber but stayed quiet.

Anthony continued,

“Yes. You’re jealous.”

Amber’s voice became louder.

“Why would I be jealous of D’Nisha?”

“Because you’re upset that I did something for her.”

Amber looked away.

Anthony wasn’t finished.

“You’re upset because you’re seeing me treat someone else differently.”

Amber’s silence said more than her words could.

Then she finally spoke.

“You think you know everything.”

Anthony replied,

“I know enough.”

Amber took a deep breath.

“I’m still your ex-girlfriend.”

Anthony looked at her.

“I know.”

“And we didn’t just randomly stop talking,” Amber continued. “We had a real relationship.”

Anthony nodded.

“But it’s over.”

Amber wasn’t satisfied.

“And we had a proper breakup.”

Anthony replied,

“Yes.”

“So I have the right to ask you questions.”

Anthony’s expression became colder.

“No, Amber. You don’t have the right to control what I do.”

“I’m not trying to control you.”

“Then what are you doing?”

Amber pointed toward the car again.

“I’m trying to understand why you’re spending your money like this.”

Anthony laughed.

“You don’t need to understand it.”

“Why?”

“Because it’s my decision.”

Amber stared at him.

Anthony continued,

“My money. My choice. My decision. If I want to buy D’Nisha a car, that’s what I’m going to do.”

“I can gift whatever I want to whoever I want.”

Amber’s face became tense.

“And you don’t think I deserve an explanation?”

Anthony looked directly into her eyes.

“No.”

The answer left Amber speechless.

D’Nisha remained quiet, watching the two of them.

“Fine.”
