jnd ) Bethany Planned a Peaceful Getaway… But Larry Wasn’t Ready for Rob to Show Up!

The Trip That Was Supposed to Be Peaceful
It had been a long time since Larry and Bethany had taken a real break from everything.
Between arguments, responsibilities, work, and all the tension that had been building around their relationship, they barely had time to sit down and enjoy each other’s company.
One evening, Bethany looked at Larry and quietly said, “Larry, can I ask you something?”
Larry looked up from his phone. “What?”
“Can we go somewhere for a little while? Just you and me.”
Larry raised an eyebrow.
“Somewhere?”
“Yes. Nothing big. We don’t have to travel far. We could just drive outside the city, have a picnic, get something to eat, and come back later.”
Larry thought about it for a moment.
Bethany continued, “It’s been so long since we’ve actually gone somewhere together. We’re always dealing with something. I just want one peaceful day.”
Larry finally nodded.
“Okay. We can do that.”
Bethany smiled.
“Really?”
“Yeah. Let’s go.”
What Larry didn’t know was that Bethany seemed to have something else on her mind.
The next morning, they packed a few things and headed out of the city.
At first, everything felt surprisingly normal.
The road was quiet. The weather was pleasant, and Bethany seemed happier than she had been in a long time.
Larry even joked, “See? You finally got me out of the house.”
Bethany laughed. “You needed it.”
“Maybe I did.”
For a while, Larry actually started believing this trip could help them move past their problems.
But there was one thing he couldn’t forget.
Rob.
Larry’s friend Rob had already become a major source of tension between him and Bethany.
There had been rumors, questions, and uncomfortable situations involving Bethany and Rob. Larry had never completely trusted what was happening between them.
Bethany had always insisted that Larry was misunderstanding the situation.
But Larry couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something she wasn’t telling him.
Still, he decided not to bring Rob up.
Not today.
They eventually stopped at a quiet outdoor spot just outside the city. There were trees, open space, and enough room for them to sit and enjoy their food.
Bethany looked around. “This is exactly what I needed.”
Larry smiled. “Then maybe you were right. We should do this more often.”
Bethany looked at him for a moment but didn’t answer.
Larry noticed. “What?”
“Nothing.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah.”
Larry nodded.
But something about her expression bothered him.
Then, suddenly, Larry heard a vehicle approaching.
He turned around.
A car stopped a short distance away.
Larry’s expression immediately changed.
Bethany froze.
A man stepped out.
Rob.
Larry stared at him in disbelief.
“What are you doing here?”
Rob looked at Larry.
“Larry?”
Larry walked toward him.
“No. Seriously. What are you doing here?”
Rob looked confused.
“I came out here for a little while. What’s the problem?”
“The problem is, how did you know we were here?”
Rob paused.
“I didn’t know you were here.”
Larry’s eyes narrowed.
“Don’t lie to me.”
“I’m not lying.”
Larry pointed toward the car.
“You expect me to believe that?”
Rob shook his head.
“I had no idea you and Bethany were coming out here.”
Larry looked back at Bethany.
She was standing silently.
Larry’s suspicion immediately shifted toward her.
“Bethany.”
She looked at him.
“What?”
“Did you tell him?”
Bethany’s eyes widened.
“No.”
“Then how did he know?”
“He didn’t know!”
Larry turned back toward Rob.
“You’re telling me you just happened to come to the exact same place?”
Rob shrugged.
“I come out this way sometimes.”
Larry laughed bitterly.
“Of course you do.”
Bethany stepped forward.
“Larry, stop.”
“No. I’m asking a simple question.”
He looked directly at Bethany.
“Did you tell Rob where we were going?”
“No!”
“Then why is he here?”
“I don’t know!”
Rob interrupted.
“Larry, I swear I didn’t come here because of you two.”
Larry stared at him.
“My problem isn’t just you being here.”
He pointed toward Bethany.
“My problem is that this has happened too many times.”
Bethany became defensive.
“What are you accusing me of?”
“You know exactly what I’m talking about.”
“No, Larry. I don’t.”
“You and Rob.”
Bethany’s face changed.
“Again?”
“Yes, again!”
Larry’s voice rose.
“I’ve been trying to ignore this. I’ve been trying to trust you. But every time I turn around, Rob is somehow involved.”
Bethany shook her head.
“You’re making something out of nothing.”
“Nothing?”
Larry looked at Rob.
“Then why is he here?”
Rob said, “I told you. I didn’t know.”
Larry looked back at Bethany.
“My problem is that I don’t believe this is a coincidence.”
Bethany crossed her arms.
“So what? You think I secretly called him?”
Larry didn’t answer.
That silence said everything.
Bethany’s expression became angry.
“You really think that little of me?”
“I think you’re hiding something from me.”
“I have been trying to spend one peaceful day with you!”
“And somehow Rob ends up here?”
“I didn’t call him!”
“Then who did?”
“I don’t know!”
The argument became more heated.
Rob stood nearby, clearly uncomfortable.
“Maybe I should leave,” he said.
Larry turned toward him.
“Don’t go anywhere.”
Rob stopped.
Larry continued, “I want to know the truth.”
Bethany looked at Larry.
“You’re embarrassing me.”
“And you’re playing games with me!”
“I’m not playing any games!”
Larry stepped closer.
“You know what you’ve been doing.”
Bethany stared back.
“No, Larry. You don’t get to blame everything on me.”
Larry’s anger reached its peak.
He grabbed the front of Bethany’s clothing near the collar for a moment and said angrily, “You’re not doing this anymore. You’re playing games with me, and it’s not okay.”
Bethany looked shocked.
Larry immediately let go and stepped back.
His voice remained firm.
“If you want Rob, then just say it.”
Bethany said nothing.
Larry continued.
“If you want to be with him, if you want to marry him, then leave.”
Bethany’s eyes widened.
“Larry…”
“No.”
He shook his head.
“I mean it.”
Rob looked between them.
Larry pointed toward the road.
“If that’s the life you want, go live it. But don’t keep me around while you’re doing whatever this is behind my back.”
Bethany’s voice became softer.
“You really think I’d do that to you?”
Larry stared at her.
“I don’t know what to think anymore.”
For several seconds, nobody spoke.
Then Rob finally said something that made both Larry and Bethany turn toward him.
“I think you both deserve to know why I’m actually here.”
Larry looked at him.
“What does that mean?”
Rob took a breath.
“I didn’t come here because Bethany told me.”
Larry frowned.
“Then why?”
Rob looked toward Bethany.
Bethany suddenly looked nervous.
Larry noticed immediately.
“Bethany… why did you just look at him like that?”
Bethany didn’t answer.
Larry’s expression changed.
“Bethany…”
Rob slowly reached into his pocket.
“I came here because someone contacted me.”
Larry’s expression hardened.
“Who?”
Rob looked at Larry.
“I don’t know if I should say it.”
Larry stepped forward.
“You came all the way out here, interrupted our trip, and now you’re telling me someone contacted you?”
Rob nodded.
“Yes.”
“Who?”
Rob looked at Bethany again.
Bethany whispered, “Rob, don’t.”
Larry immediately turned toward her.
“Don’t what?”
Bethany didn’t answer.
Larry’s face changed.
“Bethany…”
Rob finally said, “Larry, before you blame her for everything, you need to hear the whole story.”
Larry stared at him.
“What story?”
Rob hesitated.
Then he said, “Because the person who contacted me knew exactly where you two would be today.”
Larry went silent.
Bethany looked terrified.
And suddenly, Larry realized something.
Maybe Rob showing up wasn’t the biggest mystery.
Maybe the real question was…
Who told Rob where they were going?
Larry looked at Bethany.
“Tell me the truth.”
Bethany opened her mouth.
But before she could say anything, Rob’s phone suddenly rang.
Everyone froze.
Rob looked at the screen.
His expression immediately changed.
Larry noticed.
“Who is calling you?”
Rob didn’t answer.
The phone kept ringing.
Larry stepped closer.
“Rob… who is it?”
Rob slowly looked up.
And the name on his screen was someone neither Larry nor Bethany expected to see.
