D’Nisha Fears Shayla Will Take Anthony Back

D’Nisha sat quietly on the edge of the couch, staring at the floor as if she was trying to find an answer hidden somewhere beneath her feet.

Something had been bothering her all day.

And tonight, she finally decided she could not keep it to herself anymore.

Anthony walked into the room and immediately noticed the look on his wife’s face.

“D’Nisha… what’s wrong?” he asked.

She looked up at him, but for a few seconds, she said nothing.

Then she finally whispered, “I’m scared.”

Anthony frowned.

“Scared of what?”

D’Nisha took a deep breath.

“Shayla.”

Anthony’s expression changed instantly.

“Shayla?”

D’Nisha nodded.

“She just broke up with Iman,” she said. “And I know what that means.”

Anthony sat down across from her.

“What does it mean?”

D’Nisha looked directly into his eyes.

“It means she’s going to start looking for something she knows she can get.”

Anthony remained silent.

D’Nisha continued.

“And I’m afraid that something is you.”

That sentence completely changed the mood in the room.

Anthony leaned back.

“D’Nisha, you know how I feel about you.”

“I know,” she replied. “But I also know Shayla.”

Anthony sighed.

“She’s your past.”

“But I’m afraid she’s trying to make herself your future again.”

Anthony looked at her carefully.

D’Nisha’s voice became more emotional.

“She’s always been jealous of me, Anthony. You know that. She never liked the fact that I was in your life. Even when you and her were together, she always acted like there was something unfinished between you two.”

Anthony shook his head.

“That relationship is over.”

“But is it really?”

Anthony paused.

D’Nisha immediately noticed.

She leaned forward.

“That’s what scares me.”

Anthony looked away.

D’Nisha continued, “Because technically, you and Shayla still haven’t completely finished everything. You haven’t had a proper divorce yet. So legally and emotionally, there’s still something connecting you two.”

Anthony looked back at her.

“D’Nisha, whatever paperwork is left, that doesn’t change what I want.”

“But Shayla doesn’t care about what you want.”

D’Nisha’s words hit differently.

“She cares about what she wants.”

Anthony was quiet.

D’Nisha wiped away a tear.

“And right now, she wants you.”

For weeks, D’Nisha had tried convincing herself that Shayla was no longer a threat.

But every time Shayla appeared somewhere near Anthony, every time her name came up in conversation, D’Nisha felt the same uncomfortable feeling in her stomach.

And now, after Shayla’s breakup with Iman, that fear had become stronger.

D’Nisha knew Shayla.

She knew how persistent she could be.

She knew how easily Shayla could turn a simple conversation into an emotional moment.

And more importantly, D’Nisha knew Shayla still blamed her for the distance between her and Anthony.

“She hates seeing us together,” D’Nisha said.

Anthony looked confused.

“Why are you letting her control how you feel?”

“I’m not.”

“Then what are you worried about?”

D’Nisha stared at him.

“You.”

Anthony raised an eyebrow.

“Me?”

“Yes. I’m worried about what happens when she starts reminding you about your past.”

Anthony didn’t answer.

D’Nisha continued.

“She knows your weaknesses. She knows the memories you two shared. She knows exactly what to say when she wants you to feel guilty.”

Anthony slowly nodded.

“That may be true.”

“And if she starts telling you she’s changed…”

“She hasn’t.”

“You don’t know that.”

Anthony looked at her.

D’Nisha’s voice dropped.

“That’s what scares me.”

Suddenly, Anthony’s phone vibrated on the table.

Both of them looked at it.

Anthony reached for the phone.

D’Nisha watched his face as he read the message.

His expression immediately became serious.

“Who is it?” D’Nisha asked.

Anthony didn’t answer right away.

“Anthony?”

He turned the phone slightly away.

“It’s nothing.”

D’Nisha stood up.

“Nothing?”

Anthony looked at her.

“It’s just a message.”

“From who?”

Anthony hesitated.

And that hesitation told D’Nisha everything.

“Shayla?”

Anthony finally looked at her.

“Yes.”

D’Nisha froze.

“What did she say?”

Anthony stared at the screen.

“She wants to talk.”

D’Nisha let out a nervous laugh.

“Of course she does.”

“D’Nisha—”

“No. I knew this was coming.”

Anthony stood up.

“You’re overthinking this.”

“Am I?”

She pointed toward his phone.

“She just broke up with Iman, and now suddenly she wants to talk to you?”

Anthony remained silent.

D’Nisha shook her head.

“This is exactly what I was afraid of.”

But then Anthony received another message.

This time, his face changed completely.

D’Nisha noticed.

“What did she say?”

Anthony didn’t respond.

“Anthony, what did she say?”

He slowly locked his phone.

“She said she has something important to tell me.”

D’Nisha stared at him.

“What kind of something?”

“I don’t know.”

“She didn’t explain?”

“No.”

D’Nisha took a step toward him.

“Then don’t go.”

Anthony looked at her.

“Why?”

“Because this is exactly how Shayla gets into your head.”

Anthony sighed.

“You don’t know that.”

“Yes, I do.”

D’Nisha’s voice became firmer.

“She doesn’t want closure, Anthony.”

Anthony looked at her.

“She wants another chance.”

Silence filled the room.

Then Anthony finally said something D’Nisha wasn’t expecting.

“What if she does?”

D’Nisha’s eyes widened.

“What?”

Anthony immediately realized how his words sounded.

“I didn’t mean—”

“No. You meant it.”

“D’Nisha, listen—”

“You just asked me what if she wants another chance.”

Anthony tried to explain.

“I was asking because you keep assuming the worst.”

D’Nisha shook her head.

“No. I’m asking because I know what she’s capable of.”

And then came the twist.

Anthony’s phone vibrated again.

This time, he looked at the message before D’Nisha could stop him.

His face went completely still.

D’Nisha noticed.

“What?”

Anthony didn’t answer.

“What did she send you?”

He slowly turned the phone around.

D’Nisha looked at the screen.

It was a photograph.

A photograph of Anthony and Shayla from years ago.

D’Nisha stared at it.

But there was something strange about the picture.

It wasn’t an old photo D’Nisha had ever seen before.

And underneath it, Shayla had written only one sentence:

“You never knew the whole truth about why I left.”

D’Nisha looked at Anthony.

“What does that mean?”

Anthony didn’t speak.

“Anthony?”

He continued staring at the phone.

D’Nisha’s heart began racing.

“Did Shayla tell you something before?”

Anthony finally looked up.

“I don’t know what she’s talking about.”

“But she obviously thinks you do.”

Anthony stood there silently.

Then his phone rang.

The caller ID appeared on the screen.

SHAYLA.

D’Nisha stared at the name.

Anthony stared at it too.

Neither of them moved.

The phone continued ringing.

And then D’Nisha whispered something that made Anthony look at her.

“If you answer that call…”

She paused.

“…you need to be ready for whatever she’s about to bring back into our lives.”

Anthony slowly reached toward the phone.

D’Nisha watched him in silence.

Would he answer?

Would he finally shut Shayla out?

Or would one phone call reopen a relationship that D’Nisha had spent so long trying to protect herself from?

Anthony’s finger moved toward the answer button…

And just before he answered—

The call suddenly disconnected.

Anthony looked confused.

Then another message appeared.

This time, it wasn’t from Shayla.

It was from an unknown number.

Anthony opened it.

His eyes widened.

D’Nisha immediately asked,

“Anthony… who sent that?”

Anthony slowly lowered the phone.

“I think…”

He stopped.

“What?”

Anthony looked at D’Nisha.

“I think Shayla isn’t the only person trying to get between us.”

D’Nisha’s face changed.

“What do you mean?”

Anthony looked back at the mysterious message.

And whatever he had just seen was enough to make him realize that this situation was much bigger than Shayla wanting him back.

But before Anthony could explain—

Someone knocked on the front door.

D’Nisha turned toward the door.

Anthony looked at her.

Neither of them expected anyone.

Another knock came.

This time, louder.

D’Nisha whispered,

“Who could that be?”

Anthony slowly walked toward the door.

He reached for the handle…

And then his phone received one final message.

“Don’t let her open the door.”

Anthony froze.

D’Nisha stood behind him, completely unaware of what the message said.

The knocking continued.

And whoever was standing outside was about to change everything.
