Bethany Crosses the Line
Larry Walks In on Bethany and Purnell — a night of rejection, jealousy, and a confrontation that changes everything.
Chapter 1: Larry Rejects Bethany
The atmosphere aboard the Cruising For Love trip had become increasingly uncomfortable. What was supposed to be a romantic getaway had turned into a journey filled with jealousy, rejection, and unexpected confrontations. Bethany and Larry were struggling to understand each other, while Purnell was dealing with his own frustrations after Jade refused to take their relationship to the next level.
Bethany had been trying to get Larry’s attention for most of the day. She wanted affection, reassurance, and some indication that he still desired her. However, Larry seemed determined to keep his distance.
Later that evening, Bethany finally decided to confront him privately.
Bethany: “Larry, can we please talk?”
Larry looked up from his phone. “What is it now, Bethany?”
Bethany: “Why do you always talk to me like I’m bothering you? I’m your wife. I’m not some random person asking for your attention.”
Larry: “I’m not trying to argue with you. I just want some peace.”
Bethany: “We’re on a romantic cruise, Larry! We’re supposed to be spending time together. I want us to feel like a married couple again.”
Bethany stepped closer and lowered her voice. “I want you to be close to me. I want you to share an intimate moment with me. Is that really too much to ask?”
Larry’s expression changed immediately.
Larry: “No, Bethany. I’m not interested. I’m not going to pretend everything is fine between us when it isn’t.”
Bethany: “You’re seriously turning me down?”
Larry: “Yes. I said no.”
Bethany felt embarrassed and angry. She had put herself in a vulnerable position, hoping Larry would respond with affection, but his rejection made her feel even more distant from him.
Bethany: “You make me feel like I’m not even your wife anymore.”
Larry: “And you make every conversation feel like a fight. I’m tired of this.”
He walked away, leaving Bethany alone with her frustration.
Bethany: “Fine, Larry. If you don’t want me, don’t expect me to keep begging you.”
At that moment, her hurt began turning into anger, and she started questioning whether Larry was the only person who had the right to decide what happened next.
Chapter 2: Jade Rejects Purnell
Meanwhile, Purnell was facing a similar problem with Jade. He had hoped their time on the cruise would bring them closer together, but Jade had repeatedly made it clear that she wasn’t ready for the kind of relationship he wanted.
Jade: “Purnell, I need you to understand something. I’m not ready to take things further with you. I don’t want you thinking that because we’re on this trip together, I’m obligated to do anything I’m uncomfortable with.”
Purnell: “So, what exactly are we doing here? I thought we came on this cruise to enjoy ourselves and get closer.”
Jade: “We can enjoy ourselves without me having to prove anything to you. You need to respect that.”
Purnell looked disappointed. “I’ve been trying to make this work, but it feels like you’re constantly pushing me away.”
Purnell: “You know what? I’m tired of feeling rejected. I think I need some space.”
Jade: “Purnell, getting another room isn’t going to solve anything.”
Purnell: “Maybe not, but at least I’ll have some peace.”
Without waiting for another response, Purnell collected his belongings and arranged to stay in a different room. Jade watched him leave, wondering whether he genuinely needed space or was trying to make her feel guilty for setting boundaries.
Whatever his intentions were, Purnell had made his decision—and that decision would soon bring him into an unexpected situation.
Chapter 3: An Unexpected Visitor
Purnell settled into his new room, hoping to escape the drama that had followed him throughout the day. He had barely finished arranging his things when there was a knock at the door.
Purnell: “Bethany? What are you doing here?”
Bethany: “I needed to get away from everything for a little while. Larry and I just had another argument.”
Purnell stepped aside. “Come in. You look like you’ve had a rough evening.”
Bethany sat down. “You have no idea. I tried to get Larry to spend some time with me, to show me that he still cares about our marriage. Do you know what he did? He rejected me. Completely. He made me feel like I was asking for something unreasonable.”
Purnell: “That’s rough, Bethany. Nobody wants to feel unwanted by the person they’re supposed to be closest to.”
Bethany: “Exactly! I keep trying to fix things, but Larry acts like I’m the problem.”
Purnell: “Sometimes, you have to stop chasing someone who’s making you feel that way.”
Bethany looked at him. “That’s easy for you to say. You’re not the one married to Larry.”
Purnell: “No, but I know what rejection feels like. Jade just made it clear that she isn’t ready for the kind of relationship I want either.”
Bethany: “So, we’re both having a terrible night?”
Purnell: “Looks like it.”
For the first time that evening, Bethany felt that someone was listening to her without immediately criticizing her. Their conversation continued, and the atmosphere gradually changed. What began as two people discussing their relationship problems became a moment of unexpected emotional closeness.
Purnell admitted that he was tired of feeling unwanted, while Bethany confessed that she had begun to doubt whether Larry still loved her.
Purnell: “You deserve to feel appreciated.”
Bethany: “And what if Larry never makes me feel that way again?”
Purnell: “Then you need to decide what you’re going to do about your marriage.”
His words stayed with her. For a moment, they sat quietly, both aware that their conversation had moved into unfamiliar territory. Their shared frustration was drawing them closer, and the attention Bethany had wanted from Larry was suddenly coming from someone else.
Bethany leaned toward Purnell, and he moved closer too. Their interaction became increasingly personal, blurring the line between emotional comfort and romantic interest. Neither seemed to consider the consequences of what was happening.
Then, just as their closeness threatened to cross a line that could not easily be undone, the door suddenly opened.
Larry stood in the doorway.
Chapter 4: Larry Catches Them Together
Larry had been searching for Bethany after realizing she was no longer where he had last seen her. When someone mentioned that she might be visiting Purnell, he decided to find out for himself.
Now, standing in the doorway, he could hardly believe what he was seeing. Bethany and Purnell immediately moved apart.
Larry: “What in the world is going on here?”
Bethany: “Larry, listen to me.”
Larry: “No! You listen to me! I leave you alone for a little while, and I find you in another man’s room acting like this?”
Purnell stood up as well. “Hold on, Larry. You don’t know what happened.”
Larry: “And you think you can explain this? You knew she was married to me!”
Purnell: “I’m not going to stand here and let you talk to me like I’m the only person responsible for what’s happening.”
Larry stepped forward, his anger growing. “You should have known better than to get involved in my marriage.”
Purnell: “Then maybe you should have treated your wife like someone you wanted to keep close.”
Larry looked stunned by the comment. “Excuse me?”
Purnell: “You heard me. Bethany came here upset because of what happened between you two. We were talking, and things got complicated. But don’t pretend your behavior has nothing to do with what’s going on.”
Larry turned toward Bethany. “So, this is what you do when you don’t get your way? You run straight to another man?”
Bethany: “Don’t you dare talk to me like that!”
Larry: “Then explain why you’re here!”
Bethany: “I came here because I was hurt!”
Larry: “And that gives you an excuse to get close to Purnell?”
Bethany took a deep breath. “You rejected me, Larry! I told you I wanted us to be close, and you made it perfectly clear that you didn’t want me.”
Larry: “That doesn’t mean you get to disrespect our marriage!”
Purnell interrupted. “Larry, you’re not the only person who gets to have feelings here.”
Larry pointed toward the door. “Stay out of this, Purnell!”
But Bethany had reached her limit. She was tired of Larry acting as though his feelings mattered while hers could be dismissed whenever he wanted.
Chapter 5: Bethany’s Words Push Larry Over the Edge
Bethany stepped between the two men.
Bethany: “No, Larry. You’re not going to come in here and blame everybody else without looking at yourself.”
Larry: “Are you seriously defending him right now?”
Bethany: “I’m defending myself!”
Her voice grew stronger as she continued. “You rejected me when I tried to get close to you. You told me you weren’t interested, and you walked away like my feelings meant nothing.”
Larry: “I have the right to say no, Bethany!”
Bethany: “And I never said you didn’t! You have every right to make your own decisions. But you don’t get to reject me and then act like you own every decision I make afterward.”
Larry looked furious. “You’re my wife!”
Bethany: “And you’re my husband! That means we’re supposed to respect each other, not treat each other like we’re enemies!”
Purnell remained quiet, watching the confrontation unfold.
Bethany pointed toward Larry. “You can’t expect me to keep begging you for affection while you refuse to give me any. You can’t keep pushing me away and then get angry when I stop chasing you.”
Larry: “So, now you’re blaming me for what I just walked in on?”
Bethany: “I’m telling you that you can’t have it both ways! You don’t want to be close to me, but you don’t want anyone else to show me attention either.”
Larry’s voice rose. “Because you’re married to me! We made a commitment!”
Bethany: “And what about your commitment to me? Where was that commitment when I was standing in front of you, telling you that I needed you?”
Larry struggled to respond.
Larry’s face turned red with anger.
Larry: “How dare you say that to me?”
Bethany: “How dare you make me feel like I’m the only one fighting for this marriage?”
Purnell finally spoke. “Larry, maybe you two need to figure out whether you actually want to be together instead of constantly hurting each other.”
Larry: “I didn’t ask for your advice!”
Purnell: “And I didn’t ask to be dragged into your argument. But here we are.”
The room fell silent. Bethany looked at Larry, waiting for him to say something that might show he still cared about repairing their relationship. Instead, he looked at her with a mixture of anger, disbelief, and wounded pride.
Larry: “You have no idea what you’ve just done.”
Bethany: “Maybe I don’t. But I know I can’t keep living like this.”
Larry shook his head and stepped toward the door. “Don’t expect me to forget what I saw tonight.”
Bethany: “And don’t expect me to forget how you treated me before I ever walked into this room.”
Larry stopped for a moment, but he didn’t turn around. Then he walked out, leaving Bethany and Purnell alone with the consequences of the confrontation.
Chapter 6: A Marriage at a Crossroads
Bethany sat down, suddenly realizing how far the situation had gone.
Purnell: “Are you okay?”
Bethany: “No. And I don’t think anything between Larry and me is going to be the same after tonight.”
Purnell sighed. “Then maybe it’s time to figure out what you really want.”
