Steve has only been working there for a few days, but he has already started paying unusual attention to Amber. He constantly looks for opportunities to speak with her, even when there is no professional reason to do so.
STEVE
Good morning, Amber. You look beautiful today. I hope you’re having a wonderful morning.
AMBER
Thank you, Steve. Good morning. I’m just trying to finish some work before the meetings begin.
Steve pulls a chair closer to her desk, pretending that he has something important to discuss.
STEVE
You know, I was thinking about something yesterday. You and Dave seem to have a very busy life together. Does he actually spend enough time with you?
Amber looks at him with slight confusion.
AMBER
What kind of question is that? Dave and I are married. Of course, we make time for each other.
STEVE
I’m just asking because sometimes people become so busy with their work that they forget about the people who matter most.
AMBER
Well, that’s something every couple has to manage. Dave and I understand each other.
STEVE
That’s good. I hope it always stays that way.
Amber returns her attention to the computer, but Steve continues watching her. He realizes that directly criticizing Dave might make Amber uncomfortable, so he decides to take a different approach. He wants to gain her trust first.

Dave enters the office carrying his coffee. He has recently joined Wayne’s podcast team and is still becoming familiar with the workplace.

DAVE
I’m doing great, sweetheart. How about you?
AMBER
I’m good. I was actually waiting for you. I wanted to ask you something about our plans for this evening.
DAVE
Of course. We’ll talk about it during lunch. I have a few things to finish first.
Steve watches their interaction from a short distance. Seeing how naturally Amber and Dave communicate makes him uncomfortable. He approaches them, interrupting their conversation.
STEVE
Well, look at that! The happy couple is together again.
DAVE
Hey, Steve. Everything going well?
STEVE
Absolutely. Just getting used to everything around here.
DAVE
You’ll get comfortable soon. It takes a little time to understand how everything works.
STEVE
I hope so. Although, I can already tell that some people here have very interesting relationships.
DAVE
What do you mean?
STEVE
Nothing serious. Just making conversation.
AMBER
Steve, if you have something to say, you can say it directly.
STEVE
Relax, Amber. I wasn’t talking about anything bad.
Dave looks at Amber and then at Steve.
DAVE
Anyway, I’ve got to get back to work. I’ll see you both later.
Dave walks away. Steve watches him leave, then turns toward Amber.
STEVE
You know, sometimes I wonder how much two people really know about each other.
AMBER
Steve, why do you keep bringing up my relationship?
STEVE
I don’t. I was just making a general observation.
Amber shakes her head and returns to her work. Steve realizes that his comments are beginning to attract her attention, but he needs to be much more careful.
Podcast Office – Afternoon
A few hours later, Amber is organizing some files when Steve approaches her again. This time, he has a more serious expression.
STEVE
Amber, can I ask you something? And please don’t misunderstand me.
AMBER
What is it?
STEVE
Do you ever feel like Dave has changed since joining this office?
Amber pauses.
AMBER
Changed? What are you talking about?
STEVE
I mean, he’s spending more time here now. New responsibilities, new people, new opportunities. Sometimes these things change a person’s priorities.
AMBER
Dave is working. That’s what people do when they have a job. I don’t see anything wrong with that.
STEVE
Of course. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong. I just think you should pay attention to how things develop.
AMBER
Steve, I appreciate your concern, but I don’t need anyone to explain my husband to me.
STEVE
I understand. I didn’t mean to upset you.
Amber turns back toward her computer. Steve walks away, but inside he feels satisfied. He has successfully introduced another question into Amber’s mind. His plan is not to destroy their marriage in one day. He wants to create small doubts that gradually become bigger problems.
Amber and Dave’s House – Evening
The day comes to an end, and Amber returns home before Dave. She prepares dinner and waits for her husband. However, her mind keeps returning to Steve’s strange comments.

Amber hesitates before asking her question.

DAVE
Too much time? What makes you ask that?
AMBER
I don’t know. I just feel like you’ve been really busy since joining Wayne’s team.
DAVE
I understand, sweetheart. It’s a new position, and I’m trying to do well. But that doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten about you.
AMBER
I’m not saying you have. I just want us to spend enough time together.
DAVE
And we will. You’re my wife, Amber. My job is important, but our relationship will always matter more to me.
AMBER
I hope you mean that.
DAVE
Of course I do. Why would you ever doubt it?
Amber decides not to mention Steve’s comments. She doesn’t want to create an unnecessary argument over something that might mean nothing. But Steve’s words have already begun affecting her thoughts.

Steve arrives early, hoping to find Amber alone. He notices her sitting near the conference table and immediately approaches.

AMBER
It was fine, thank you.
STEVE
Did you and Dave spend some quality time together?
AMBER
Steve, why are you so interested in what happens between me and my husband?
STEVE
There’s no need to get defensive. I was only asking because you seemed a little stressed yesterday.
AMBER
I’m fine. And my personal life isn’t something I need to discuss at work.
STEVE
You’re right. I apologize.
He pauses before adding another carefully chosen comment.
STEVE
But honestly, Amber, you deserve someone who makes you feel important every single day. Never settle for less than that.
AMBER
I already have a husband who loves me. I don’t need you to remind me what I deserve.
Steve’s smile disappears for a moment.
STEVE
I understand.
Amber walks away. Steve watches her go, becoming increasingly frustrated. He thought his compliments would make Amber more comfortable around him, but she continues defending Dave. His attraction to Amber is turning into an obsession, and his patience is beginning to disappear.

Wayne sits behind his desk, reviewing some business documents. Steve enters after knocking on the door.

STEVE

WAYNE

Steve closes the door behind him.

STEVE
