The secret began inside Dev’s office. Imani stood across from his desk with a folder in her hands, but the paperwork was no longer the reason she had come to speak with him. She had been Dev’s assistant for a long time, and her work had brought her close to him almost every day.

She handled his schedule, joined him during meetings, helped with office events, and sometimes visited his home when work required it. At first, Dev was simply her boss. But slowly, Imani’s feelings changed.

That afternoon, she finally decided she could no longer keep them hidden.

Dev looked at her in surprise. Imani knew it was complicated. She also knew about Amber, the woman who already had a relationship with Dev and who had never been completely comfortable with Imani being around him so often.

Dev remained silent for several moments. Then he asked Imani if she understood what her confession could mean.

“I know,” she replied. “But I couldn’t keep pretending that I don’t feel anything.”

Instead of ending the conversation, Dev said something Imani never expected to hear.

Imani stared at him. Dev explained that Amber did not need to know immediately. If they kept everything private, he believed they could avoid questions and continue with their lives without anyone discovering the plan.

Imani was nervous. She knew Amber already had doubts about them. But hearing Dev talk about marriage made her believe that he was serious about her.

Neither of them realized that the decision to keep their relationship secret had already created a new problem: every hidden message, every private conversation, and every unexplained meeting could become evidence.

Amber had noticed the changes long before she knew the truth. Imani seemed to be around Dev constantly. If Dev had a meeting, Imani was often nearby. If he attended an event, she was sometimes there too. Even Dev’s home had become a place where Imani occasionally appeared because of work.

Amber had asked Dev about it more than once.

Dev always gave the same explanation: Imani was his assistant and her presence was connected to work. Amber listened, but the explanation never completely removed her doubts.

Then she noticed another change. Dev became more protective of his phone. Whenever a message appeared, he sometimes moved away before answering. Whenever Amber came close, he would quickly pick it up.

Amber did not know exactly what Dev was hiding, but she knew something felt different.

A few days later, Dev left his office for an important meeting. Imani stayed behind to finish paperwork.

While organizing documents, she accidentally knocked Dev’s phone onto the desk. The screen lit up with a notification.

Imani picked it up. She saw a message connected to the secret she and Dev had been trying to protect.

She immediately locked the phone and placed it back exactly where it had been.

Imani believed no one had noticed.

But she was wrong.

Later, Amber arrived unexpectedly. She saw Imani coming out of Dev’s office. Imani tried to explain that she had been finishing work, but Amber watched her carefully.

Amber did not argue. She simply walked away.

Her silence, however, did not mean she believed Imani.

That evening, Amber received a message from an unknown number.

Amber stared at the screen. Who had sent it? Was someone trying to warn her, or was someone trying to create trouble between her and Dev?

She decided she needed answers.

The next morning, Amber entered Dev’s office before he arrived. She looked around without knowing exactly what she was searching for. Then she noticed a drawer that was slightly open.

Inside was a small envelope.

Amber picked it up and noticed one name written on it:

Her expression changed.

She opened the envelope and found something that immediately made her heart race. It was connected to the secret Dev and Imani had been hiding.

Before Amber could read everything, she heard footsteps outside.

The door opened.

Imani walked in.

Both women froze.

Imani looked at the envelope in Amber’s hand and immediately recognized it.

Amber looked directly at her.

Imani tried to speak, but the words would not come.

Amber’s suspicions were no longer just suspicions. She believed she finally had proof that something had been happening behind her back.

Then the office door opened again.

Dev walked inside.

The moment he saw Amber holding the envelope, he stopped.

Amber turned toward him.

Dev looked at Imani, then back at Amber. For several seconds, he said nothing.

Amber opened the envelope again. But underneath the first document, she noticed another paper that she had not seen before.

She slowly pulled it out.

Dev’s expression immediately changed.

Imani lowered her eyes.

Amber looked from one of them to the other.

Dev stepped forward.

Amber stopped.

“Then what is the real story?” she asked.

Dev didn’t answer.

Amber looked down at the second document. Whatever was written on it seemed to be more serious than the secret marriage plan she had just discovered.

She turned the paper over.

And then she saw a detail that made her completely speechless.

It was something Dev had never told her.

Something Imani had apparently known from the beginning.

And if Amber read the next line, there would be no way for Dev or Imani to take the truth back.
