A Cinematic Drama Screenplay
FADE IN:

EXT. LARRY’S HOUSE – LATE AFTERNOON

The sun hangs low in the sky, painting the quiet neighborhood in warm golden light.

A soft breeze moves through the trees.

A car slowly pulls up outside Larry’s house.

The engine shuts off.

LYNETTE sits behind the steering wheel. She stares at the house through the windshield.

Her expression is nervous, but there is also a small smile on her face.

She takes a deep breath and checks herself in the mirror.

Today, she has come to see Larry.

She reaches into her bag and pulls out a small gift.

She looks at it for a moment. Her fingers gently tighten around it.

LYNETTE
Larry is going to be so surprised.

She smiles faintly.

Then she steps out of the car.

EXT. LARRY’S FRONT DOOR – MOMENTS LATER

Lynette walks toward the house.

Her footsteps are slow and careful.

She reaches the front door.

She knocks.

No answer.

She waits.

She knocks again.

Still nothing.

Lynette looks around.

The house appears quiet.

She slowly tries the door.

To her surprise, it opens.

Lynette hesitates.

LYNETTE
Larry?

No response.

She steps inside.

INT. LARRY’S HOUSE – CONTINUOUS

The house is strangely quiet.

Lynette closes the door behind her.

She holds the gift against her chest.

A soft smile returns to her face.

She begins walking through the hallway.

Then—

She hears voices.

Lynette stops.

Her smile disappears.

She listens carefully.

A woman’s voice.

Then Larry’s voice.

Lynette’s heart begins beating faster.

She slowly walks toward the living room.

She reaches the doorway.

She looks inside.

And freezes.

INT. LIVING ROOM – CONTINUOUS

LARRY and BETHANY are standing close together.

They are completely unaware of Lynette’s presence.

Bethany has her arms around Larry.

Larry gently holds her.

Then they kiss.

Lynette’s eyes widen.

The gift nearly slips from her hands.

Her entire body becomes still.

She can’t breathe for a moment.

The happiness she carried into the house disappears instantly.

Tears begin forming in her eyes.

She slowly covers her mouth with one hand.

She doesn’t want them to hear her.

She takes one small step backward.

But she can’t look away.

BETHANY
I missed you so much.
LARRY
I missed you too.

Bethany smiles and gently touches his face.

Lynette watches them from the doorway.

Her lips begin trembling.

She remembers all the moments she shared with Larry.

The conversations.

The promises.

The moments when she believed she mattered to him.

Now, everything feels like a lie.

THE WORDS THAT BREAK LYNETTE

Lynette takes another step backward.

Her breathing becomes shaky.

She turns slightly, hoping to leave before they notice her.

But then Bethany speaks again.

BETHANY
Larry…

Larry looks at her.

BETHANY
I love you.

Lynette stops.

Her eyes widen.

The words hit her harder than anything else.

She slowly turns back toward them.

Larry smiles at Bethany.

LARRY
Love you too.

Lynette’s face falls.

Her heart breaks.

She presses her hand against her chest.

The tears begin flowing uncontrollably.

She silently cries in the hallway.

Larry and Bethany still have no idea she is there.

INT. HALLWAY – CONTINUOUS

Lynette backs away from the living room.

Her hand reaches for the wall.

She needs something to hold onto.

Her breathing becomes uneven.

She looks down at the gift in her hands.

It is beautifully wrapped.

She had brought it for Larry.

She had imagined giving it to him.

She had imagined his smile.

Now the gift means nothing.

Lynette slowly lowers it.

Her fingers loosen.

The gift falls to the floor.

THUD.

The sound is soft, but Lynette immediately freezes.

LYNETTE
Why, Larry?
LYNETTE
How could you?

She wipes her tears, but her hands are shaking.

Memories flash through her mind.

Larry laughing with her.

Larry looking into her eyes.

Larry telling her that everything would be okay.

INT. LIVING ROOM – SAME TIME

Larry and Bethany sit together.

They continue talking casually.

Neither of them realizes that Lynette has witnessed everything.

BETHANY
I feel safe with you.
LARRY
You don’t have to worry about anything.

Lynette hears every word from the hallway.

Her eyes close.

The pain becomes unbearable.

LYNETTE’S FINAL LOOK

Lynette bends down and picks up the gift.

She looks at it one last time.

Her tears fall onto the wrapping paper.

She slowly holds it against her chest.

LYNETTE
I came here because I missed you.
LYNETTE
I thought you missed me too.
LYNETTE
But I was wrong.

Lynette turns away.

She begins walking toward the front door.

Every step feels heavier than the last.

EXT. LARRY’S HOUSE – MOMENTS LATER

The front door opens.

Lynette quietly steps outside.

She closes the door behind her.

The moment she reaches the driveway, she breaks down.
