Denisha’s Ex Returns — Anthony’s Jealous Rage

Denisha’s Ex Returns — Anthony’s Jealous Rage

A Cinematic Drama Screenplay

FADE IN: — EXT. LUXURY RESTAURANT – EVENING

Golden lights illuminate the entrance of an elegant restaurant. Expensive cars pull up outside as guests walk through the glass doors.

DENISHA stands beside a black car, adjusting her long hair. She looks nervous, checking her phone for the third time.

A message appears on the screen.

“I’m here. Come outside. I need to talk to you.”

Denisha takes a deep breath. Before she can reply, a familiar voice comes from behind her.

MARCUS

Denisha.

She freezes. Slowly, she turns around. MARCUS, her ex-boyfriend, stands a few steps away. He wears a confident smile, but his eyes reveal something deeper.

DENISHA

Marcus? What are you doing here?

MARCUS

Is that how you greet someone you haven’t seen in months?

DENISHA

I wasn’t expecting you.

MARCUS

I know. That’s why I came myself.

He steps closer. Denisha immediately takes a small step backward.

DENISHA

Marcus, whatever you want to say, just say it. I don’t have all evening.

His smile fades.

MARCUS

I heard you’re seeing Anthony now.

DENISHA

That’s none of your business.

MARCUS

So it’s true.

DENISHA

Why do you care?

Marcus studies her face, searching for the woman he once knew.

MARCUS

Because I still care about you, Denisha.

She looks away. For a moment, neither of them speaks.

CUT TO:

INT. ANTHONY’S CAR – SAME TIME

Anthony sits behind the steering wheel, watching the restaurant entrance. He has come to pick Denisha up after she told him she needed to meet someone.

His phone rests in his hand. He sends her a message.

“Where are you? I’m outside.”

No reply. Anthony glances toward the sidewalk. Then he sees her. Denisha is standing beside a man.

Anthony narrows his eyes. He leans forward, trying to get a better look. The man steps closer to Denisha, speaking intensely.

Anthony’s jaw tightens. He recognizes the face from a photograph Denisha once showed him.

Marcus. Her ex-boyfriend.

Anthony’s expression hardens.

ANTHONY

Under his breath.

You’ve got to be kidding me.

He opens the car door and steps outside. His eyes remain fixed on the pair.

CUT TO:

EXT. RESTAURANT ENTRANCE – CONTINUOUS

Marcus continues speaking while Denisha folds her arms across her chest.

MARCUS

I didn’t come here to argue with you.

DENISHA

Then why did you come?

MARCUS

To tell you that I made a mistake.

Denisha lets out a quiet, disbelieving laugh.

DENISHA

A mistake?

MARCUS

Leaving you was the biggest mistake of my life.

She stares at him. The words bring back memories she has spent months trying to forget: late-night arguments, broken promises, and the night Marcus walked away without looking back.

Denisha swallows hard.

DENISHA

You don’t get to come back whenever you feel lonely and expect me to open my arms.

MARCUS

I’m not asking you to forget everything.

DENISHA

Then what are you asking for?

Marcus looks directly into her eyes.

MARCUS

Another chance.

Before Denisha can respond, a deep voice interrupts them.

ANTHONY

I think she’s already given you enough chances.

Both of them turn. Anthony stands behind Marcus, his shoulders squared and his face filled with anger. His eyes move from Marcus to Denisha, then return to Marcus. Anthony’s stare is cold enough to silence the conversation.

Marcus slowly turns toward him.

MARCUS

And you must be Anthony.

ANTHONY

And you must be the ex-boyfriend who doesn’t understand when his time is over.

Denisha looks between the two men. She can feel the tension rising.

DENISHA

Anthony, please—

Anthony raises one hand slightly, without taking his eyes off Marcus.

ANTHONY

I’m talking to him.

His voice is controlled, but the anger underneath it is unmistakable. Marcus gives a small smile.

MARCUS

So you’re the new man.

ANTHONY

That’s right.

MARCUS

Interesting. I expected someone different.

Anthony takes a step forward.

ANTHONY

And I expected you to have enough respect to leave her alone.

Marcus’s smile disappears.

MARCUS

You don’t know anything about our relationship.

ANTHONY

I know enough to recognize when someone is trying to walk back into a life they already walked away from.

Marcus looks toward Denisha.

MARCUS

Is he always this jealous?

Anthony’s eyes flash with anger.

ANTHONY

Watch your mouth.

DENISHA

Anthony!

Her voice cuts through the tension. Anthony finally glances at her. For a second, the anger in his face softens. But when he looks back at Marcus, it returns.

CUT TO:

EXT. RESTAURANT PARKING AREA – MOMENTS LATER

A few people passing by slow their steps, sensing the confrontation. Denisha moves between the two men.

DENISHA

Both of you need to calm down.

Marcus looks at her with wounded pride.

MARCUS

I came here because I wanted to make things right.

DENISHA

You should have thought about that before you left.

MARCUS

I know I hurt you.

DENISHA

You didn’t just hurt me, Marcus. You made me question whether anything you ever said was true.

Her voice trembles slightly. Anthony watches her carefully. He had seen Denisha smile, laugh, and pretend everything was fine. He had never heard her speak about her past with this much pain.

Marcus lowers his eyes.

MARCUS

I was selfish. I thought I could leave and come back whenever I wanted.

DENISHA

And now?

Marcus looks up.

MARCUS

Now I know I was wrong.

Anthony lets out a bitter laugh.

ANTHONY

Convenient timing.

Marcus turns sharply toward him.

MARCUS

This conversation is between me and Denisha.

ANTHONY

Not when you bring your past into her present and expect everyone else to stand aside.

MARCUS

You think buying her dinner and driving her around makes you better than me?

Anthony’s expression darkens.

ANTHONY

No. The difference is that I don’t need to remind her of what I do for her.

He steps closer, staring directly into Marcus’s eyes.

ANTHONY

I show up. I listen when she speaks. And when she tells me something matters to her, I don’t disappear and leave her wondering what she did wrong.

Denisha looks at Anthony. His words touch something deep inside her. Marcus has no immediate answer. For the first time since arriving, he looks uncertain.

MARCUS

You don’t know the whole story.

ANTHONY

Then tell me why you’re standing here asking for another chance after she already moved on.

MARCUS

Because I still love her!

His voice echoes across the parking area. Denisha closes her eyes briefly. Anthony’s hands tighten at his sides.

ANTHONY

Love?

He shakes his head in disbelief.

ANTHONY

You don’t get to use that word like it erases everything you’ve done.

DENISHA

Anthony, that’s enough.

Anthony stops speaking. He looks at her, confused by the pain in her expression.

DENISHA

I can handle this myself.

A long silence follows. Anthony studies her face. He realizes that his anger, however understandable, is beginning to take control of a situation that belongs to her.

He steps back.

ANTHONY

All right.

His voice is quieter now.

ANTHONY

But I’m not going to pretend I like seeing him here.

Denisha nods.

DENISHA

I understand.

Marcus watches their exchange with growing frustration.

MARCUS

So that’s it? You’re choosing him?

Denisha turns toward him. Her eyes are clear now.

DENISHA

This isn’t a competition, Marcus.

MARCUS

You haven’t even heard everything I came to say.

DENISHA

I’ve heard enough to understand what you want.

She pauses, collecting herself.

DENISHA

But you keep talking about what you want. You haven’t asked yourself what I want.

Marcus looks stunned.

DENISHA

When you left me, I waited for you to call. I waited for you to explain. I kept making excuses for you because I thought the man I loved wouldn’t abandon me without a reason.

Her voice grows stronger.

DENISHA

But I finally learned that missing someone doesn’t mean you should let them hurt you again.

Anthony remains silent, giving her space. Marcus’s eyes begin to glisten.

MARCUS

I never meant to hurt you.

DENISHA

Maybe you didn’t. But you did.

She takes a steady breath.

DENISHA

And I’m not the same woman you left behind.

CUT TO:

INT. RESTAURANT – LATER

Denisha sits at a table near the window. Anthony sits opposite her, his expression still troubled. Two untouched glasses of water stand between them.

For several moments, neither speaks. Finally, Anthony breaks the silence.

ANTHONY

I’m sorry.

Denisha looks up.

DENISHA

For what?

ANTHONY

For losing my temper out there.

He rubs a hand across his jaw.

ANTHONY

The moment I saw him looking at you, I felt like he was trying to take something away from me.

Denisha studies him.

DENISHA

I’m not something someone can take away, Anthony.

He lowers his eyes.

ANTHONY

I know.

DENISHA

Then trust me enough to let me make my own decisions.

Anthony looks at her again. The anger in his face has been replaced by vulnerability.

ANTHONY
